What Do I Know?: November 2014
http://knighterrantjr.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 23, 2014. A Moment of Silence for Jurg Cragscale (Iron Kingdoms Recap). Just in time for the game this Thursday, the miniature that I ordered to represent Jurg Cragscale came in. Not only that, but one of my friends modified it a bit right off the bat so that he could be holding the sword-cannon bit that I also purchased so that Jurg would be on his way to looking the way he should. Our Rhulic warcaster Couth, the badly injured Ogrun bodyguard Tokol, and our Nyss (whose player wasn't pre...

What Do I Know?: June 2015

Sunday, June 7, 2015. Continuing Adventures In Darkness. I can't claim to have read everything new World of Darkness. My primary points of reference here are the World of Darkness core rulebook, the Werewolf the Forsaken book, the God Machine Chronicles update, and the Beast the Primordial "beta" that is available at the Kickstarter at the moment. It's a cross section, but I can't claim that it's representative. Less than Good (For Me). The problem is, those books seem to follow a different pattern than ...

What Do I Know?: October 2014

Sunday, October 19, 2014. Waving the White Flag . . . Again (The Ever Rebooted Forgotten Realms). Anyone that knows me and has for a while probably knows that at one point in time my greatest RPG love was the Forgotten Realms. I could picture the streets of Waterdeep and Skullport, I had a very strong idea of what Mistledale and its environs were like, and I had spent a great deal of time with the grand old city of Arabel in Cormyr. To me, the previous Realms were a thing that you might either love or no...

What Do I Know?: August 2015

Saturday, August 22, 2015. A Game So Good, It Could End the World (Monster of the Week Session Three). Thursday night we added a new player to the Monster of the Week game (well, not new, but he's new to the MOTW game, but is another player from the Werewolf game, who is temporarily home from his game demoing sojourn, and our alpha is still missing). He picked up the Summoned playbook, which looked like a lot of fun. Enough vague referencing, here is what happened:. And Brandon's car was transformed into...

What Do I Know?: In Doom We Trust
http://knighterrantjr.blogspot.com/2015/08/im-reading-reviews-of-new-fantastic.html
Wednesday, August 5, 2015. In Doom We Trust. I'm reading reviews of the new Fantastic Four movie, and I'm not feeling overly positive. You know why Doom is an awesome character? Doom actually does the right thing from time to time! Sure, he may be willing to kill lots of people to ensure he's in charge of the planet, but if something actually threatens the planet, he's the first one to side with the good guys to repulse the threat. Nobody gets to take Doom's planet away from him! Doom's signature gotcha ...

Monday, June 23, 2014. Free RPG Day From the Trenches. This year's Free RPG Day was the best Free RPG Day ever, but it didn't have that much to do with the free stuff. Oh, there was some nice stuff, don't get me wrong, but the best part of the event this year was the actual gaming. Between getting to game with my daughter Audra Rascher. And playing in games run by Rob Barrett. As well as getting to play in two RPGs that I have never had a chance to play before. It was great. But first things first. My da...

What Do I Know?: Narrative Generic Trek is Not a (Professionally Produced) Thing
http://knighterrantjr.blogspot.com/2015/07/narrative-generic-trek-is-not.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. Narrative Generic Trek is Not a (Professionally Produced) Thing. The more I read through RPGs like Marvel Heroic, various Apocalypse World derived games, and Fate games, the more I am convinced that the feel and flow of various properties are definitely encapsulated better by more narrative oriented roleplaying games. Coming up with some new way to use existing equipment to do (science ex machina). Talking to the right people at the right time to convince them to change their minds.

Sunday, July 27, 2014. More Uses for an Icon Roll? Maybe . . . The thoughts continue to flow regarding when and how to use Icon relationship rolls . . . When the character would normally die, roll the Icon relationship die. If a 5 or a 6 comes up, the Icon's agents, or those working against an Icon, have been keeping an eye on the PC and want to make sure that they don't pass on just yet. Roll an Icon relationship roll for each PC. On a 5 or a 6 for any PC in the party, there is no TPK. The PCs will all ...

Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Quick Hits- Obligation, Duty, and Morality for Episodic Games. I would hate to cut the flavor from the game by getting rid of these mechanics, so I thought of something that could be utilized to keep them relevant to the game in a more episodic manner. Quick Episodic Obligation, Duty, and Morality Checks. Action doesn't mean combat. A thief might steal a cargo skiff and fly like crazy through a canyon to get back to his ship, which could still lead to injury and is action ...

What Do I Know?: February 2015

Saturday, February 21, 2015. Making Up Random Poo Doo: Using Star Wars Galactic Dice Game Dice as Randomizers, Volume 1- Who Do You Know? Today I happened upon this oddity on the game aisle at the local Walmart:. I have yet to look at the actual rules, but as soon as I saw these, I decided that I had to come up with some kind of randomized . . . thing . . . to use with the Star Wars RPGs. Once everyone has rolled these dice, they do not get rolled again until all of the players have cashed in their die r...
