One Way Ticket to Cairo

One Way Ticket to Cairo. Tuesday, July 8, 2008. Season came to a dramatic end, like hitting a brick wall, the first day of Spring Break when the men’s 8 sweep lost to basically every other college in Egypt. Go AUC! To ensure that we knew we were in Egypt, the races began with fishermen holding the boats steady. At the start of my first, I noticed that the husband of our makeshift anchor was holding our boat with one hand, cigarette in the other while his wife was washing dishes in the Nile. After only a ...

One Way Ticket to Cairo: January 2008

http://www.onewaytickettocairo.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

One Way Ticket to Cairo. Monday, January 28, 2008. Nate, Arthur and I explored the Pyramids a few days ago. We went at sunset when the area was closing and sat atop peaks just taking in the view. Next time we'll go inside, but just being on the sand dunes high above Cairo was breathtaking and something I'll always keep with me. School starts in a few days, but every day has been an excitement - even just shopping and cooking is a little bit more exciting in Cairo. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

One Way Ticket to Cairo: My Egyptian Friends….and Other Animals*

http://www.onewaytickettocairo.blogspot.com/2008/04/my-egyptian-friendsand-other-animals.html

One Way Ticket to Cairo. Sunday, April 20, 2008. My Egyptian Friends….and Other Animals*. If the cats in my apartment building are any measure, this city of 20 million must have at double that amount in stray/wild animals. It’s not rare to see donkeys, horses, camels and dogs, (especially in heavy traffic) and there’s those. Early morning ferrets who dart out at my feet as I run to crew. But a few animals have caught my particular naturalist fancy:. Now that the kittens are able to hunt on their own with...

One Way Ticket to Cairo. Sunday, March 23, 2008. A Lesson in Economics. The basic concepts of supply and demand: you’ve heard of it, right? Over population in 3. World Countries: I know you’ve heard of that. Put them together and what do you get? Last time I talked about economic problems in Egypt the ministry of information turned off my phone, but I’m determined! This is devastating for many reasons, just ask Karl Marx. Seriously: ISSO, Main Gym, Photographer for 6 pictures(! McDonalds, Grocery Stores,...

One Way Ticket to Cairo: Next time I'm taking the camel....

http://www.onewaytickettocairo.blogspot.com/2008/03/next-time-im-taking-camel.html

One Way Ticket to Cairo. Saturday, March 8, 2008. Next time I'm taking the camel. The goal of the night was a party in 26th of July (the city not the street – look it up, worldwide repercussions mucho mas b/c of that date) which in my limited experience looks like every other suburban area of Cairo – desert. We parked, the thumping bass audible from half a block away as we approached the house. We took the elevator to the 4. Hussein finally picked us up from our derelict rattletrap, but our cabbie couldn...

The Continental Divide: February 2008

http://jensen-continentaldivide.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Where east meets west. Wednesday, February 20, 2008. My plan tonight was simple: groceries, gym, laundry. I know, my life is so glamorous. However, after throwing a load in the wash, I realized I needed to reload my card. (This laundry room doesn't take quarters, only cards that can be filled with $10 or $20 at a time. LAME.). And furthermore, who is available between the hours of 9am and 6pm to purchase these cards? This is why I hate my apartment management company. Last Saturday morning, after a low-k...

The Continental Divide: May 2008

http://jensen-continentaldivide.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Where east meets west. Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Last Sunday, I witnessed my very first Bay to Breakers. Let me recap it for you:. 7:30am - leave the house dressed in our matching "flip cup champs" tank tops and booty shorts, with sweatshirts on top since it was a chilly and foggy morning. 7:45am - pick up Starbucks for a little caffeine boost. 7:50am - find a bar for some shots of Bailey's to add to our coffees. People start throwing tortillas out of the apartments above us:. Tortillas litter the street:.

The Continental Divide: Is Somebody Being Patriotic Over Here...?

http://jensen-continentaldivide.blogspot.com/2008/03/is-somebody-being-patriotic-over-here_27.html

Where east meets west. Thursday, March 27, 2008. Is Somebody Being Patriotic Over Here? It was St Patrick's Day. This made Kevin want to take his shirt off, which somehow attracted a novelty hat-wearing conspiracy theorist. It also made me discover the video mode on my digital camera (that I've had for over a year now). Oh, and Kevin somehow got the big guy to take his shirt off too. Fortunately, that moment was not captured on film. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Not East, Not West.

The Continental Divide: January 2008

http://jensen-continentaldivide.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Where east meets west. Monday, January 28, 2008. Evelyn Considers the West Coast. The whole point of the weekend was to tour the campus of UC Berkeley, but she didn't actually do that until the day they left. The rest of the weekend was spent cruising around the area, enjoying the weather, the ocean, the hills, the Haight. She loved Haight-Ashbury (as we all knew she would) and tried repeatedly for a good picture of the street signs at the intersection. Unfortunately, the light wasn't quite right. The ma...

Where east meets west. Monday, March 31, 2008. Google Stalking Danielle Steel. This weekend I walked past Danielle Steel. S house. It's this massive property at the top of a huge hill in Pacific Heights that takes up half the block. Since most of it is surrounded by a giant hedge, I couldn't resist checking out the bird's eye view. The grass is looking a little sparse. Shouldn't she have some Fabio-like gardeners out there working their magic? And look at the huge greenhouse! Or is that a pool? Oh, and K...

Where east meets west. Tuesday, December 25, 2007. Hope all your Christmas' were joyful. So joyful that you took off your shoes and jumped! We did. Although, this photo is from 2006. The Jensen Christmas was delightful. Lilly made a 4-layer Devil's Food Cake and Apple Pie and Rita cooked salmon with shallots and fennel which made everyone happy and full. Where east meets west. Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Last weekend, my best friend Claire came to visit. Claire is a nurse and she owns a house. This blows my mind every time I think about it. But one of the highlights of the weekend was overhearing the below conversation in Central Park between a semi-goodlooking man and his cell phone:. So, we got home and she went into the bathroom to change her tampon and when she came back in I was passed out.". Posted by fuzzy j. Saturday, September 15, 2007. Today I...
