Can we start the summer again please? This year, it seems that everytime I set aside some time for sailing it just incites the Gods to throw wind at me! Above is the surface pressure chart for Sunday. Guess I'll be decorating : (. 10 September 2011 at 10:43. Go anyway - put a spinnaker up and break the land speed record. :o). Picture Win...

Snowpetrel Sailing: Snow Petrel..The boring details
http://snowpetrelsailing.blogspot.com/p/snow-petrelthe-boring-details.html
Snow Petrel. The boring details. Snow Petrel. The boring details. I bought Snow Petrel (then named Obsession) with the plan in mind to sail to Norway and Spitsbergen via cape horn, and maybe then to Antarctica. She was always envisioned as an intermediate boat and not the perfect boat. A proud new owner with alot of work to do. Reiger in Tasmania. Photo Greg Hockey. Cape horn, southern ocean and ice, 26 foot fiberglass boats aren't recommended, its possible (Jarle in his little Berserk. An interior that's ...

Snowpetrel Sailing: A dinghy to row. Galifreya
http://snowpetrelsailing.blogspot.com/2015/01/a-dinghy-to-row-galifreya.html
Snow Petrel. The boring details. Monday, January 26, 2015. A dinghy to row. Galifreya. Most dinghies today aren't designed to row, Even ones that you might think are. I was lucky to grow up with two nice rowing dinghies and no outboard motors. Part of the decision to go for a bigger boat was to be able to get a bigger dinghy on deck that will row much better than the 8 footer on Snow petrel. I can fit a 12 footer onto Snow Petrel II. I chose to pull the quarters up to reduce wetter surface and transom dra...

Snowpetrel Sailing: A new boat!
http://snowpetrelsailing.blogspot.com/2012/11/a-new-boat.html
Snow Petrel. The boring details. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Like a hermit crab for a while now I have been feeling like I have outgrown my shell, she feels too small and not exciting enough. Well I have just bought a new boat, or at least I will have in a few days when the bank processes my money transfer! In my last post I had a list of a bunch of desired features of a new boat, most of which did not make for a cheap boat. Looking back over the list. Slightly red faced). Yes so I am told. Well that's th...

Snowpetrel Sailing: Slab reefing...Scratching the Surface.
http://snowpetrelsailing.blogspot.com/2011/02/slab-reefingscratching-surface.html
Snow Petrel. The boring details. Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Slab reefing.Scratching the Surface. See how the top batten can get caught. I reef and unreef alot, too much some people say, often a couple of times an hour. but I hate the boat slopping around and I hate pushing too hard, Snow Petrel carries abit to much weather helm at times (I have ideas to fix this.) so getting the mains'l area right is important. I have dealt with a lot of mains, from the 1500 square foot gaff main on Soren Larsen. Make ...

Snowpetrel Sailing: September 2012
http://snowpetrelsailing.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Snow Petrel. The boring details. Monday, September 24, 2012. I think I have contracted that dreaded scourge of boat owners. I have all the symptoms, excessive time on the computer, eagerly awaiting emails and attachments. Carefully scrutinizing picture after picture of boats, a dreamy look on my face, with screwed up sketches of possible modifications strewn around. Anyway look on the bright side, it could be worse, it could be 10 foot-itis or even 20 foot-itis. Fast and easy to handle. Links to this post.

Jelly Bean: February 2011

Adventures in a bilge keel. Sounds wrong! Life in a Fantasie. Even worse! Having fun in Robert Tuckers Fantasie 19. There, that should do. Friday, 25 February 2011. Lifting foredeck : (. Today had been set aside to help Steve to repair the shroud plate on Papillon. Due to a poor weather forecast Steve decided to put this of for a later date. I dutifully used the time to flat the topsides on Jelly Bean ready for a fresh coat of paint. Pic taken after bow roller was strapped down to trailer. As a sad follo...

Adventures in a bilge keel. Sounds wrong! Life in a Fantasie. Even worse! Having fun in Robert Tuckers Fantasie 19. There, that should do. Sunday, 2 October 2011. End of an Era. After lunch I inflated the dinghy and we paddled ashore for a stroll around the island, stopping for a pot of tea at the cafe before heading back to the boat. On the way back we saw this cheeky chap munching on fallen chestnuts. Julie enjoying the sailing experience. 3 October 2011 at 12:02. Was out yesterday and a Hurley 20 wen...

False Start……. | On-Board with Chris

Bored and frustrated…. →. April 12, 2012 · 10:00 pm. False Start……. The past 2 weeks (well, nearly. Have been, well let’s say interesting…. Amazingly I even had the drip rate speed up to an extortionate rate that almost turned into a constant, uninterrupted flow – only within 10 minutes of setting to the correct drip rate! There, that feels better. I must say that this is not a problem that these heaters are known for, as I purchased this based on suitability and reputation. These heaters have been i...
