The last minute inclusion of The D...

Its back to the 1950s with another 50p 45RPM Newport charity shop find (located on March 14, 2015) . The Guide Featuring Nina Jones, Dr Robert, Eggsy, Tayo Aluko, Mark Newnham and Sir Bruce Forsyth. This weeks e-edition of The Guide. Culminated a very busy week for me writing up interviews, reviews and previews, however I felt there was some good content here. Musically there was a Q&A with Newport singer songwriter Nina Jones. Random radio jottings: Parky at 80

http://andywalmsley.blogspot.com/2015/03/parky-at-80.html

Saturday, 28 March 2015. Happy 80th Birthday today to Michael Parkinson. Parky’s career is pretty well-known: cub reporter on the South Yorkshire Times. National Service (Private Parkinson RAPC, army number 23131269), back to Civvy street and reporting for the Barnsley Chronicle. ABC Television (at their Didsbury studios), down to Fleet Street to work on the Daily Express. Back north to Granada TV ( Scene at 6.30. A brief (unsuccessful) spell with the Beeb on 24 Hours. In late 1985 there was a six-part s...

Random radio jottings: September 2014

http://andywalmsley.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 30 September 2014. 8220;Standby for switching. Get tuned to Radio 1 or 2. 5, 4, 3, Radio 2, Radio 1, go! 8221; Surely one of the most played pieces of radio archive: Robin Scott’s countdown to the launch of Radio 1 at 7 am on Saturday 30 September 1967. But what was happening over on Radios 2, 3 and 4? Was there an exciting new range of programmes as part of the biggest shake-up of the radio networks since the immediate post-war period? Or was it just business as usual? So what about Radio 1?

Random radio jottings: Take Me to Your Leader

http://andywalmsley.blogspot.com/2015/05/take-me-to-your-leader.html

Friday, 1 May 2015. Take Me to Your Leader. Election debates. Leadership interviews. Question Time Special. Party Election Broadcasts. It won't have escaped your notice that (in the UK) there's a General Election happening next week. The political spectrum is much more fragmented these days and the parties are undoubtedly planning for coalition deals and agreements - even if they publicly deny this. From 10 December 1985 this is Labour leader Neil Kinnock:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hailing ori...

Random radio jottings: August 2014

http://andywalmsley.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, 28 August 2014. What’s The Frequency, Kenneth? Can you tell your frequencies from your wavelengths? Here’s help from the Ladybird book How It Works: Television. Published in 1968, I’m guessing, from the stations on the radio dial, the artwork was commissioned the previous year. The text was written by David Carey. The illustration is by B.H. Robinson. Monday, 25 August 2014. Ross on the Radio. I wonder if Bob Shennan had to complete extra compliance paperwork to get him back on-air? Ran for 13 ...

Random radio jottings: Get Myself Connected

http://andywalmsley.blogspot.com/2015/03/get-myself-connected.html

Monday, 23 March 2015. Image a world in which you could get “all your music and videos online without ever leaving your home”. I know. It’ll never happen! This vast explosion of change in cyberspace and interactivity was on the horizon when BBC Radio 1 presented their Interactive Radio Night. Twenty years ago cutting edge was a CD-ROM and the concept on sending an email was still a novelty. Guiding listeners through the technology are Evening Session. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Random radio jottings: November 2014

http://andywalmsley.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Friday, 28 November 2014. So was a Debussy tune used as a radio jingle? I’m convinced so, and no it’s not one on Classic FM. I was prompted to ask this question whilst listening to the current edition of Counterpoint. 8211; Radio 4’s music quiz with Gambo back in the chair this week. Up came a question in the specialist round about Claude Debussy:. The Snow is Dancing. A Radio Humberside news jingle based on Debussy’s The Snow is Dancing. If not it sure sounds very similar. Random radio jottings: December 2014

http://andywalmsley.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 30 December 2014. Rolling Back the Year. We are, apparently, slap bang in the middle of what some call Merryneum. That post Christmas period when we’ve had our fill of pud, turkey leftovers and the sales and we’re girding our loins for the New Year’s Eve revelries and the return to work. It’s also a time for reflection on the past year, the highlights and the lowlights, the good and the bad. With Sarah Montague hash-tagging the year and Pick of the Year. 5 Live in Short. And the excellent Radio.

This and that.......

Monday, 6 June 2011. The Bhartiya Nari in me. It was the day of all-cousins get together, when I decided to put my culinary skills to good use. I decided to leave out my uncles and aunts because just the cousins added up to little above 20.the entire family would mean just about 50 or so. That would be too much of an effort just to prove my culinary prowess. I decided I would make something really exotic. According to my nephew I cook the same gisa-peeta `Dahi Aloo' and `Maa ki Dal'. The Online Scribbler

Jottings, drawings and random musings of a designer, writer, father and husband. Tuesday, 22 August 2017. Tenby Charity Shop Music Finds - August, 2017. Whilst on holiday in Tenby last week, I did the usual perusal of charity shops for vinyl finds. There were a few vinyl's on offer, particularly from artists I enjoy listening to, while the prices were pretty static, averaging at a pound for most finds. The week got off to a good start on August 14 on a rainy afternoon with a visit to two charity shops.
