WTF | On The Bone
https://onthebone.wordpress.com/about
An omnivorous journey through Vancouver. I like to eat and I like to write. This blog is where these activities intersect. As one cannot really gauge the relevance of a restaurant review to their own needs without knowing something of the reviewer, I offer the following:. I enjoy the food of all cultures. I enjoy fine dining, and I enjoy a good greasy-spoon diner. I could care less about what the latest trendy hot-spot is. I will add photos soon. I promise! I am available for freelance writing projects t...

Eating,: Homemade gnocchi
http://brentoneats.blogspot.com/2014/01/homemade-gnocchi.html
Drinking and reading and going to the barber. Sunday, January 19, 2014. I've always wanted to try making gnocchi. Those little delightful potato dumplings look so simple. I've seen them made on tv on several occasions, and I decided the other day to try my hand. It wasn't a resounding success, but I feel like I have something to build on. I consulted a few different recipes, with varied but simple instructions. Start with:. Some flour (between a cup and 2 cups). Some salt and pepper. Or vegetable mill...
Eating,: Campagnolo part one: Saturday brunch
http://brentoneats.blogspot.com/2010/01/campagnolo-part-one-saturday-brunch.html
Drinking and reading and going to the barber. Sunday, January 31, 2010. Campagnolo part one: Saturday brunch. The delicious braised pork belly crepes. Whoever came. Up with this dish deserves thanks. It was my birthday a short while ago, and we decided to try Campagnolo. Again I'll leave that for Campagnolo part two. But while we were browsing their menus, I noticed that they did brunch, and at very reasonable prices considering the quality they put out for dinner. Eggs with tomato on country bread.
Eating,: Restaurant review: Eating at the Libra Room
http://brentoneats.blogspot.com/2010/01/restaurant-review-eating-at-libra-room.html
Drinking and reading and going to the barber. Friday, January 22, 2010. Restaurant review: Eating at the Libra Room. N and I went to the Libra Room. Tonight to hear a string quartet play some Shostakovich. I know, what? We started with a drink. The wine list is full of cheap drinkers that didn't appeal. I went for beer: Unibroue's Blanche de Chambly. Is a lovely wheat beer in the German tradition. N had some forgettable shiraz. I have no idea what J had. Like I said, cheap drinkers. All in all, not a gre...

Drinking and reading and going to the barber. Friday, May 22, 2009. Time and corn flour. So I have a bit more time on my hands lately, and I've started to garden rather than bake. So there will be a distinctly gardeny feel to this, but I do intend to continue baking. Photos to follow. . Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Coming up. ish. Eating,: January 2009

Drinking and reading and going to the barber. Thursday, January 8, 2009. Leaving you honey bronzed and very desirable" (Snik sun tan cream description). I made crepes this afternoon, following the arrival of my mom's much-anticipated recipe:. 1 c milk (whole milk, which is standard for me). 2/3 c flour (I used a tad more). Cook on medium heat, about 1/3 - 1/2 cup per crepe. Because of the higher egg:milk:flour ratio, but I think it makes them better. Served with bananas, yoghourt and syrup. It is well-de...

Drinking and reading and going to the barber. Friday, October 31, 2008. Crunky: The anti-Ikea Food. How great is this chocolate bar wrapper? There is a Korean grocer near our new house, and we have discovered a few pretty great items, our favourite being Crunky. For $0.89 you can pick yourself up a Crunky. Okay, that was a stupid line but it's pretty fun to say/write the name Crunky. Links to this post. Friday, October 24, 2008. You may wonder what sort of quality one may expect from such cheap chocolate...

Drinking and reading and going to the barber. Monday, April 6, 2009. Hi everyone (if there is anyone left),. I just wanted to apologize for the lack of notice about the extended absence. Work and stuff got in the way of blogging. I've also been told to avoid white flour and sugar, for health reasons. I will remain away until after May 12th (election day in BC! At which point I will be exploring my favourite recipes and trying to adapt them. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Drinking and reading and going to the barber. Saturday, November 29, 2008. And right back to it. I was bored tonight and felt like creating something, and there was some cocoa powder staring me in the face. I like the lack of dairy in biscotti, and thought some nice chocolate biscotti would be lovely tomorrow morning. I started by looking at this recipe. But didn't really follow it. And it worked out fine, so it just goes to show. Here's what I did:. Mix: - - - - - - - - - - - Mix separately:. Turns out,...
