James Price Point 2011 Blockade photographs. Above) Things are hotting up. Above) Twenty police march down Cape Leveque Road while others remain hidden behind the vehicles. They were wary of the photographers who would exploit any mistakes they made. Above) Most police were from Perth and from the Tactical Response Group. They could apprehend a resisting protester without causing injury or, with a subtle change of method imperceptive to onlookers, cause the protester to suffer an injury. A surprisingly e...

James Price Point 2011 Blockade photographs. Above) An injured man being taken away. Neville Ripp looks away: this is not a situation he wants to be seen, seeing. Above) This was an instance where my memory fails. Did I see the police grab this man by the lower part of his body and hear his face smack onto the road. Had he strayed too close into the path of an earthmover? Above) These photographs don't show the large contingent of police, but there were about one hundred of them lined up alongside this r...

James Price Point 2011 Blockade photographs. Above) No one got through without answering a few questions. Above) Franz Hoogland tried to stop one woman from being arrested by clacking together his wooden sticks. This had little effect except to make one woman laugh. Franz arrived in Broome with the intention of becoming an Aboriginal Law Man then discovered he was too late. He carries an aura of grief. Above) The atmosphere was becoming tense with one-hundred police including members of the tactical resp...

James Price Point 2011 Blockade photographs. Above) The earthmoving convoy is creeping up Cape Leveque Road as the police prepare to lead it through. Above) The police might here be driving Janet's daughter to the hospital, not that she was sick, but as a disabled girl it wasn't right to put her in jail, so the hospital would fulfil the role as a token detention centre. Is that Franz Hoogland clacking his sticks together? Above) A Woodside employee turning the tables. May be granted upon application.

James Price Point 2011 Blockade photographs. Above) Franz has changed into his showbiz costume and clacks his sticks a safe distance from the action. This is my last photograph taken after which the convoy reached jogging pace and the protesters fell back. Upon returning to the main camp we were surprised to find that most of those at the main camp, including local politicians like Elsta Foy, had all along remained there relaxingly drinking tea. May be granted upon application. Also of interest, perhaps.

James Price Point 2011 Blockade photographs. Above) The police continue making arrests like this citizen whom one would have to respect for offering himself as a victim in the effort to maintain the wilderness state of James Price Point. Above) The officer on the right tries to prevent the prisoner from waving. Above) Waiting for passengers. Above) There was some sadness. Above) Lynette Cox wasn't happy seeing her niece crying. May be granted upon application. Also of interest, perhaps.

James Price Point 2011 Blockade photographs. Above) The front man of the police wedge. He reminds me of a Subaru salesman in Adelaide. Above) The police using their hands to push aside the protesters. Above) The old man helped up from the ground. A policeman asks him if he wants to get arrested, but encourages him to "fight another day". The old man is crying. Above) A brown hand comforts the old man. Another person urges him to "fight another day". He is helped aside and the convoy begins moving.

James Price Point 2011 Blockade photographs. Above) Camera stand-off at two metres. The two Aboriginal teenagers atop the Land Cruiser were from a rival group that wanted the Woodside Gas refinery. They laughed as police arrested the Aboriginal protesters. Above) This clever officer dropped her camera to allow me a shot then after thanking her she called me back so she could take a picture of me. In keeping with discipline she showed not a glimmer of warmth. Left) This woman is standing up for her cause.

Banjarwarn Station in Australia - Aum Shinrikyo at Banjawarn Station in Australia
Banjarwarn Station in Australia. Aum Shinrikyo at Banjawarn Station in Australia. On the Trail of Harry Mason. Banjawarn Station, north of Leonora in Western Australia, was Aum Shinrikyo's observation base for esoteric weapons tests conducted by unknown powers. The more wary kangaroos linger amongst the trees, measuring any potential threat before gracefully stomping through their worn path. The roads are quiet. Gone are the days when Land Rovers and utes crammed with shearers and jackeroos raced bac...
