Ontologically Happy

Seeking happiness through enjoyment and creation of art, poetry and thought. Sunday, November 24, 2013. Reflecting on Summer on a Frosty Day. Our backyard, lovely and completed this summer. We spent many hours out there, picnics on the play-set, practicing math facts and reading poetry in the "fort" together were a highlight. Me working in the garden and relishing every minute in the sun with dirt in my nails. And our huge crop of giant ZUCCHINI! Monday, April 22, 2013. This image came to me as I was pla...

Ontologically Happy: April 2013

http://www.ontologicallyhappy.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Seeking happiness through enjoyment and creation of art, poetry and thought. Monday, April 22, 2013. Can it be a self-portrait if it doesn't look like me? The answer is "YES" because when you're the artist, you can do whatever you want! Artistic liberty is a fantastic thing- something that, as I'm experimenting with different mediums and styles, all while trying to drop perfectionistic tendencies or expectations of greatness for myself, I'm finding freedom like I didn't know existed. Blackbird fly, black...

Ontologically Happy: April 2012

http://www.ontologicallyhappy.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Seeking happiness through enjoyment and creation of art, poetry and thought. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Love in the Fog. My love and I have been floating for a a few months. Not in the dreamy, newlywed way,. But rather, in the suspended, circling the airport, waiting to land, kind of floating. We're in the fog, antsy, uncomfortable. Yet here we remain sitting next to each other close enough to touch. With hands in our laps. Waiting for the clear to land, waiting for a voice to say it's safe and our turn.

Ontologically Happy: January 2012

http://www.ontologicallyhappy.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Seeking happiness through enjoyment and creation of art, poetry and thought. Thursday, January 19, 2012. Painting. A Year Late. This week I took a painting class with Wendy Brightbill. A local mixed-media artist, and had so much fun! This was a goal from 2011, and even though accomplished late, it's directed me unexpectedly in my goal setting for this year. Okay, "a bit", is understating it- novel work is pushed aside (for now) and I'm ready to PAINT! First up- I'm doing an art journal! This is the last ...

Ontologically Happy: Hope in the Sorrowful Swamp

http://www.ontologicallyhappy.blogspot.com/2012/08/hope-in-sorrowful-swamp.html

Seeking happiness through enjoyment and creation of art, poetry and thought. Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Hope in the Sorrowful Swamp. Painting by Fiona Finlay. To push away this rotten water for good. Today, when each piece from the few blogs I regularly read seemed to speak so directly and specifically to me, I felt a jolt of hope that the swamp won't remain forever. I'm posting my two favorites here to keep for my own future reminders, and to share, because they are fabulous. Chores to the rescue! But I h...

Two Lives More Ordinary: July 2013

http://twolivesmoreordinary.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Two Lives More Ordinary. Sunday, July 21, 2013. Playing in the Sprinklers. What is more fun on a HOT July afternoon than playing with a baby in the sprinklers? So this past Saturday I was at the kitchen table, working on a video I'm putting together for Gracie's birthday (which is in exactly one week.I can't believe it! When I see Chris take Gracie outside and then I start to hear all this happy squealing (from both of them). I grab my camera and head out there and this is what I find. Be still my heart!

Two Lives More Ordinary: March 2013

http://twolivesmoreordinary.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Two Lives More Ordinary. Monday, March 25, 2013. Bakeries, Bistros, Beignets. This past weekend we got a call from our friends Dan and Margaret who wanted to try the quiche at this little bakery in Old Town Leesburg.and that's how it all started. After coffee we found our way into a couple of antique shops and Gracie took a nap in the stroller as Chris and Dan walked her down the street, eliciting many gasps from women they passed who commented that "she is adorable and also passed out.". The staff was s...

Two Lives More Ordinary. Friday, November 22, 2013. Before I get too far ahead of myself getting caught up on past posts, we wanted to share our exciting new news! I'll be 22 weeks pregnant next week, and can't believe that I'm 5 months pregnant! We had our 20 week ultrasound last week and found out that we are having another G-I-R-L! We are so excited! While Gracie doesn't entirely grasp this concept yet, that there is a baby in my "belly," we talk it up quite a bit and she loves to pull my shirt up and.

Two Lives More Ordinary: June 2013

http://twolivesmoreordinary.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Two Lives More Ordinary. Thursday, June 27, 2013. A Visit from the Littlest Aunt. We went outlet mall shopping; we bought the necessities to start a vegetable and herb garden and planted it all; we went hiking and picnicing at Great Falls; she and Chris even had a little outing after church to a local nursery and came home with a fountain and a cherry tree. I had no words. Really, no words. Gracie playing on the couch. Loved playing with Aunt Vannah's braid. Picking out cages for our mater plants. You kn...

Two Lives More Ordinary. Thursday, December 19, 2013. A Visit from Nonnie. It's amazing how time - and children - change identities. My mama used to always be "Mama." But now that we have Gracie and I'm her. Mama is "Nonnie." So instead of being Mama she is now and forever Nonnie. :) Well, Nonnie came to visit us in mid September. It was wonderful to have her in our home and all to ourselves. I adore this: holding hands, doggie under one hand and Gracie looking up at Nonnie. Nonnie had to hold Gracie bec...

Two Lives More Ordinary. Wednesday, February 19, 2014. My Messes, My Memories. There's a sucker stuck to my back, isn't there? I say to my friend as I hold my 18 month old daughter, who was. Licking daintily on a Dum Dum, in the middle of the mall. By the roaring laughter and the "Wait, I have to take a picture! Never be like that. How could all your OCD tendencies fostered over decades just melt away? And that's the beauty in this mess of a journey called motherhood. How many times in my BK life do ...

Two Lives More Ordinary: August 2013

http://twolivesmoreordinary.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Two Lives More Ordinary. Friday, August 2, 2013. Fun at a Farm and Fair. There were buckets and shovels and little cars and trucks in the box. I plopped Gracie down in the corn and she quickly became enamored with it and started to scoop the corn up by a shovel and put it in a bucket. Only once did I catch her trying to sneak a kernel into her mouth. :). Here are some of my favorite pictures of our little adventure to the farm and the fair. The total cost of our outing together: $0. I spy a snout. She wa...

It seems like yesterday - and like a lifetime ago - that we found out we were pregnant with you. What a joyous surprise! We are waiting anxiously for your arrival. What will you look like?
