Oomama's Fundraising Committee organizes events in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation and its work to help grandmothers caring for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. Consisting of lively and motivated women, the group meets monthly to brainstorm and organize. Subcommittees are then formed to steer each project, but receive the support of all Oomamas when an event is ready to go. It's always exciting and lots of fun! How are funds used? How is money raised?

The purpose of the Speakers/Education Committee is to raise awareness about the strengths and needs of the African grandmothers caring for their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS. Through presentations and workshops, our committee reaches out to all branches of the community including service clubs, social clubs, businesses, faith communities and schools, with particular concentration on developing a global consciousness in students (e.g. World Issues classes, Social Justice groups).
