Open PRT specification project: 167> Easier Every Day
http://openprtspecs.blogspot.com/2015/06/easier-every-day.html
Open PRT specification project. Rethinking Personal Rapid Transit Design. Wednesday, June 17, 2015. 167 Easier Every Day. From my 3D simulations, it appears that this bogie can achieve turning radii (horizontal and vertical) of under 60 inches, keeping with a design philosophy of enabling PRT to go essentially anywhere with minimal conflicts and expenses regarding right-of-way or station placement. A whole PRT vehicle could easily pull a U-turn within the floor space of a small two car garage! And anyone...

Open PRT specification project. Rethinking Personal Rapid Transit Design. Tuesday, March 10, 2015. 166 Cruisin' for Burgers and Batteries. A bridge – The cost of building a PRT bridge or putting track on an existing bridge is almost trivial compared to adding a lane for ordinary traffic and getting through such a bottleneck quickly can potentially create high volumes of passengers. Park and Ride locations - Get passengers where they are leaving their cars anyway! For the moment, though, I would like to c...

Open PRT specification project. Rethinking Personal Rapid Transit Design. Saturday, January 17, 2015. 164 Papa Bear, Mama Bear, Baby Bear. As promised in my last post, I have modified the SMART PRT (Suspended Multi-axis Automated Rail Transport – Personal Rapid Transit) design yet again, this time to accommodate featherweight “pods” and enclose the bottom of the track, as well as fine-tuning certain proportions. The “baby” track is sized for speeds below 30 mph, (48 km/h) with weights below 5...And speed...

Open PRT specification project. Rethinking Personal Rapid Transit Design. Wednesday, February 4, 2015. 165 Tips for Designing PRT. As for the second criteria, such a simple route lends itself better to a larger, scheduled vehicle anyway. Since everyone is going to the same place, why not ride together? Even a few stations between would not represent much added inconvenience. Why PRT has not entered the mainstream is not simply a matter of suspended vs. supported design, linear vs. rotary motors, ...8220;...

Aus-car the Transit Grouch: October 2010
http://transitgrouch.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Aus-car the Transit Grouch. What would it take to get YOU out of your car? Monday, October 18, 2010. Transit on summer holiday 2010, Part 1. Our family traveled a lot in July. Texas, Nevada, Eastern California, and Washington D.C. And yes, I tried to use transit whenever possible. Here's part 1 of what worked and what didn't. Then it was back to Seattle for a week in the office (heading home from the airport on light rail and an express bus, of course) before driving to Reno and then to Mammoth Mountain.

Aus-car the Transit Grouch. What would it take to get YOU out of your car? Saturday, January 29, 2011. My wife and I play padiddle. Sometimes. We used to play more often, when it was just the two of us before the kids came along. When either of us saw a vehicle without a working headlight, we would call out "padiddle! And if we did it first, the other person had to give a kiss. We very rarely saw a bus padiddle. This week I may have figured out why. How long will that take? A couple minutes," he replied.

Aus-car the Transit Grouch. What would it take to get YOU out of your car? Thursday, October 27, 2011. What's with all the hit-and-run drivers lately? Is it a symptom of broader economic woes, a backlash against the expanding bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in the more forward-looking American cities (too often I see badly misinformed comments in newspaper articles that bicyclists and pedestrians "don't pay" for these facilities), or something else? Aus-car the Transit Grouch. What would it take to get YOU out of your car? Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Light rail ridership looking up in 2010. I have to say, since about a month ago I've noticed that Central Link light rail ridership seems to be up from its dismal 2009 numbers. The last 7-8 times I've seen a southbound train go by from stations in the downtown Seattle transit tunnel, they've seemed to be carrying about twice as many riders as I was counting. This is as expected. Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

Aus-car the Transit Grouch. What would it take to get YOU out of your car? Tuesday, August 10, 2010. Good ORCA, Bad ORCA. First, let me say that after months trying to add credit to my ORCA card. Much of it the fault of that system, I was finally successful thanks to some help from ORCA telephone support. ORCA, Part 3. ORCA, Part 4. Major hole in the ORCA system here, it seems like. On the return, my wife used my ORCA card to pay for her trip from the airport to downtown on light rail, knowing from me th...

Aus-car the Transit Grouch. What would it take to get YOU out of your car? Wednesday, April 21, 2010. ORCA, Part 3. Of this developing saga for details on what came before.). Already know (or thought I knew) was that I need to "tap" my card in order for the purchases I'd made to be applied. Aus-car the Transit Grouch. What would it take to get YOU out of your car? Friday, May 7, 2010. ORCA, Part 4. A couple things that haven't yet been mentioned in my saga of trying to get an ORCA card to work (See Part 1. This complicated my attempts to get resolution on having made this $20 credit purchase, which at that time appeared as "pending" on the ORCA card. Website, to say nothing of the $15 I'd spent which had never been acknowledged at all. Wednesday, May 5, 2010. On the other hand, maybe my com...

Aus-car the Transit Grouch. What would it take to get YOU out of your car? Saturday, January 18, 2014. A bus from the Rose Bowl. Then a train and another bus. And then another train and another bus home. This post is in two parts, the first started on my way home from the Rose Bowl two weeks ago, and the second on Wednesday's King County Metro commuter buses. Part 1: written between downtown Los Angeles and LAX Airport. I'm beginning this on board an LAX FlyAway bus. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my c...

Open PRT specification project. Rethinking Personal Rapid Transit Design. Monday, December 19, 2016. Greetings, Updates and Plans from Dan the Blogger. I do fly back to Houston frequently to help out and try to get caught up when in the city, although I am busy here as well. So I guess what I am saying is please bear with me, and don’t hesitate to comment, even if I take a very long time to reply! BTW, this problem is years old. Way back in post 106. Sheet steel and some round tube and bar, all welded.
