The Open Shed: Scarf for Jill
http://openshed.blogspot.com/2010/07/scarf-for-jill.html
Thoughts from a weaver in the Midwest. Tuesday, July 20, 2010. It has been more than a year since I bought a 4 shaft extension kit for my Louet Spring. Life happened, and I just recently installed it, giving me 12 shafts in all. My plan is to work through "Exploring Multishaft Design", but first, I wanted to make something. I decided on a straight threading. I used a plaited tie up from Bonnie Inouye's "Advance! And here is a picture showing the front in more detail:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
The Open Shed: Linen Huck Lace Runner
http://openshed.blogspot.com/2010/04/linen-huck-lace-runner.html
Thoughts from a weaver in the Midwest. Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Linen Huck Lace Runner. I wove a sample as well, and used part of it to make a card to go with the gift:. Alison, I just did a search for huck lace setts for 16/2 linen and found your blog. Your lace runner is stunning and is quite an inspiration for me! I am about to start a project of yardage and was vacillating on sett. Seeing your linen runner at 18 epi is very helpful! Thank you for sharing it! May 23, 2014 at 11:21 AM.

Thoughts from a weaver in the Midwest. Monday, January 18, 2010. Canvas weave wedding gift. But with a heart-shaped opening. I forgot to take a picture of the card, too! I did manage to snap a couple of pics of the towels, so I will leave you with them. I turned those summer and winter bookmarks I was making into Christmas cards. I only finished seven before Christmas, just enough to send to the board members of our guild and to my weaving teacher. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Canvas weave wedding gift.
The Open Shed: September 2010
http://openshed.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Thoughts from a weaver in the Midwest. Friday, September 24, 2010. Robyn Spady Fab Four Workshop. Cannele (with different cell sizes):. Overshot patterned double weave (top) and turned swivel (middle, light weft, and bottom, dark weft). Some ideas I'm thinking of. Diversified plainweave towels, table runner; cannele place mats; swivel, framed like needlepoint for my walls; a messenger bag with corduroy on the front. I wonder if I ought to quit my day job. Scarf inspired by Advance!

Thoughts from a weaver in the Midwest. Monday, June 29, 2009. Wednesday, June 24, 2009. I love my Ladybug! When I went to Greencastle earlier this year, I sat down and took a Schacht Ladybug for a spin. And I was hooked. So a Ladybug finally made her way to my house. Here she is:. So far, I've spun some BFL, some merino-alpaca blend, and some silk hankies. I've really enjoyed it. I had forgotten how much I looooooove silk hankies. Tuesday, June 2, 2009. Wedding in the Smokies. FlaxandFleece weaving blog: October 2013
http://flaxandfleece.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, 13 October 2013. Tying on linen and wool warp, and sampling! I tied the linen and wool warp onto the wool one, weaving a strip of plain weave first to keep all the ends in order and make them easier to find. It worked very well, I had no crossed ends doing it this way, and it was quite quick to do. This is a huck tie up but I'll only be using plain weave in a very open sett for this. This is the second scarf on the striped warp, I used the same lycra yarn in the weft at intervals of about an inch...
FlaxandFleece weaving blog: huck scarves
http://flaxandfleece.blogspot.com/2013/09/huck-scarves.html
Monday, 23 September 2013. I once did a completely different style of huck scarf and someone told me it was not true huck - this is probably even less true huck, but I was aiming at honeycomb anyway. I'm not a purist! This is a close-up - the 'cells' are outlined with a heavy black yarn which adds a bit of texture. 25 September 2013 at 07:59. Are you sure its tracking? It looks to me more like creasing during the wet finishing. Try wetting it again and see if it comes out. Tracking happens more i...I sti...
FlaxandFleece weaving blog: November 2011
http://flaxandfleece.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, 24 November 2011. These are all using a basic tie-up, to see what variety you can do without having to crawl under the loom. I've avoided all the very strong zigzag motifs. I like the diagonal stripe in the orange, which comes out as a very plain weave on the back. Next time I'll definitely move on to something new. Saturday, 19 November 2011. Pebble twill and others. And this is the original dog tooth check I started with. After I'd pressed it I gave it a bit of a brush with a clothes brus...

FlaxandFleece weaving blog: Second scarf
http://flaxandfleece.blogspot.com/2013/10/second-scarf.html
Sunday, 13 October 2013. This is the second scarf on the striped warp, I used the same lycra yarn in the weft at intervals of about an inch, but used orange and purple stripes using the same yarns as in the warp. I have a feeling it hasn't pleated as densely as the first scarf, perhaps because the purple yarn is a bit thicker than the sage green I used in the other. This is a close up. FlaxandFleece weaving blog: December 2011
http://flaxandfleece.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Friday, 9 December 2011. One problem that came to light as soon as I started weaving, was that the very contrasting colours of red and turquoise showed in the same weaving picks in tabby weave as they were on shafts 2 and 4. So against a dark background the much brighter colours really stood out and it didn't look particularly attractive. I decided there were a couple of solutions:. 1 Weave with a weft of one of the contrasting colours (either the red or turquoise). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Peg in Sou...

FlaxandFleece weaving blog: January 2012
http://flaxandfleece.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Monday, 23 January 2012. Waffle tea towels in fine linen. I've put on a warp of fine unbleached cotton, probably around 2/20, at a sett of 24 epi, and I am weaving a set of tea towels with all linen weft. I absolutely love the lavender grey linen, which is a fine singles, but it is difficult to match to another colour and the pale green below was a bit disappointing. Though ordering without seeing can cause some disappointment . Wednesday, 11 January 2012. After the first towel I did I completely redid t...

The Open Shed
Thoughts from a weaver in the Midwest. Sunday, March 27, 2011. I have fallen terribly behind on keeping track of my projects, so it's time to catch up! This scarf was woven for my cousin Reasa. The warp is painted by Carrie May. In her Autumn Harvest colorway. It is 8/2 Tencel sett at 24 epi. The weft is brown wool crepe from Habu. The draft for this scarf was inspired by and is very similar to Jill's scarf. Workshop really gave me the tools to design this. Friday, September 24, 2010. Robyn was also kind...
