OpenSourceDesignTools: A Parametric Vise in FreeCAD

My quest to be free of black box software for manufacturing and design. Sunday, April 27, 2014. A Parametric Vise in FreeCAD. This post is for Normand. I promised him that I would show this a long time ago. The small script that downloads the other files is here:. Https:/ raw.githubusercontent.com/danielfalck/FCparametric/master/macros/vise macro.py. Copy and paste it into your FreeCAD python console or into the FreeCAD macro editor and run it with the green play button. The vise looks like this:. Norman...

My quest to be free of black box software for manufacturing and design. Friday, January 13, 2012. Sunday, January 1, 2012. I was able to hack together a crude 'Profile Operation' dialog and connect it to heekscnc and libarea functions this weekend. Now I can bring up the dialog, select the edges of a solid, and then backplot the code. It's definitely a rough hack, but it shows some potential. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My quest to be free of black box software for manufacturing and design. Sunday, May 13, 2012. This is a test to see how javascript could work for post processing. In the left textarea, add terms like 'g0(0,0,0)' for rapid moves, 'g1(1,0,0)' for feed moves and then press the 'Post' button to get some GCode in the right textarea box. Some of you might wonder why? This is just a test for something bigger. G0(x,y,z) - rapid. G1(x,y,z) - feed move. G2(x,y,i,j) - clockwise arc - i,js in absolute coordinates.

My quest to be free of black box software for manufacturing and design. Sunday, October 27, 2013. Welcome to the Monkey Lab. I had a client request that I make an aluminum panel for mounting an LCD monitor and touchscreen for his research group. He supplied the monitor, touchscreen, a light, and a drink dispenser. Hmmm- sounds interesting. Who would be using the touch screen? Monkeys of course. Wow. Here is how I did it: To begin with, I found spec sheets for the monitor and touch screen online.

http://heekscnc.blogspot.com/2012/07/i-lost-my-previous-home-made-phone.html
Monday, July 9, 2012. I lost my previous home-made phone cover last week sometime. When I checked my phone this morning, it turns out that I had accidentally phoned someone last night while my phone was in my pocket. It was the chinese take-away that I phoned, so it could have been worse. This morning I designed and made a better cover for my phone, using HeeksCAD software and my 3D printer. Monday, March 17, 2014. I made a release of HeeksCNC 1.0, my CAD/CAM software, for Windows. You can program drilling, profile and pocket operations. You can then run a simulation of solid removal. This amazing software is less than $20. Get it here. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). HeeksCNC Google Code project. View my complete profile.

Wednesday, November 23, 2011. I used my new rotary axis for my Sieg KX1 to cut a big gear ( 60 teeth, 77.5mm outside diamter ). Each side of the tooth is made with about 10 cuts, so it has many straight lines. It doesn't seem to run as smoothly as the gear which I milled around the profile. Sunday, November 20, 2011. The parts were simple sketches padded to the thickness of the acrylic - 3mm. Wednesday, May 30, 2012. I bought some new mild steel sheet yesterday. It was 1.5mm thick. It was much newer than the other steel I got. It sanded clean very easily and was not pitted with rust. I engraved this with a 3mm slot drill, a 1mm slot drill and my engraving tool; nominally 27.5 degrees half angle, 0.1mm cutting diameter at the tip. In the picture, we were trying electro etching using salt solution; John's idea. It took off enough material, but was not a good surface finish.

Saturday, June 23, 2012. We unplugged my "Heeksatrol" computer from the Bridgeport Series 1 and replaced it with a PC running LinuxCNC. In less than a day we had it moving the 3 axes, with very little work by us. We copied some code to make LinuxCNC ask us to press a button to continue on a tool change:. But we didn't work out how to make it retract up to our limit switch on a tool change, yet. Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Saturday, June 16, 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). HeeksCNC Google Code project.
