Operation Active: July 2007

http://operationactive.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 25, 2007. I feel pretty lame right now, posting for the first time in a month only to say that my progress has pretty bad because I've been eating doughnuts for breakfast and cookies for dinner. Okay, I'll buck up and be honest:. I've been going to the gym on a very regular basis. Since my last post (a month ago) I've lost weight, not gained. I've only lost half a pound. In other words, I have only myself to blame. Does this sound like dedication to anyone? No, not really.

Operation Active: November 2007

http://operationactive.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 26, 2007. How to be hard as nails. I haven't used my bicycle to get to and from the train station for my commute in months. I use the bus and work shuttle instead. It's only 12 miles a day, in four chunks. I know lots of folks here who are still biking, and A is still biking in Chicago for crying out loud. Still, I haven't made any effort to get back on the bike. Then this morning I read How to be hard as nails. Time to buy some cold weather biking gear. Sunday, November 25, 2007. I star...

Operation Active: March 2007

http://operationactive.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 21, 2007. Someday, if I work hard and eat all my steak, I'll be able to do this. Monday, March 19, 2007. Friday was a CrossFit rest day, but I weight lifted anyway. Saturday was a CrossFit "figure out your max lift for squats, shoulder press, and dead lift" but I didn't have the gym available and didn't exercise at all that day. Sunday I bicycled a bit, to get from point A to B, and could have done the CrossFit WOD but didn't because I didn't get around to it. Thursday, March 15, 2007.

Operation Active: June 2007

http://operationactive.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 29, 2007. Dedication, and Thanks. Thanks to Samo for getting me into the work gym this morning at 7:15am (which required me to get up at 5:30am, catch the 6:10am train, and bike for half an hour). Then to lift heavy things in a dedicated fashion for an hour before showering and THEN, finally having breakfast. I can feel the sore starting already. :). Wednesday, June 27, 2007. That that part is over, thankfully. Now I can focus on these short term goals:. Stick to the Plan. Over in my other b...

Speedy Samo: September 2009

http://speedysamo.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Doing the little things. Sunday, September 27, 2009. Garin Park XC Challenge 2009. Garin is pretty hilly in the middle miles. You start out in a valley and after about a half mile, the course climbs until the mile mark, then there is a slight downhill until a hairpin turn that takes you up a steep incline that eases out, brings you into a dip and then takes you up a shorter steep hill. Then we went careening down hill (FUN! Thursday, September 24, 2009. JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge 2009. In the en...

Doing the little things. Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Bay 2 Breakers Centipede. I was hooked into the middle of the centipede, and was so glad I wasn't a floater! When the countdown clock hit 00:00, we were really close to the start, all lined up in a long column, so our front runner (wearing the antennae! And then I thought, "And the distance left is more than most of my running races! A little after that marker, the ladies sped up and I was pulled for the rest of the race. We finished together! Speedy Samo: April 2008

http://speedysamo.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Doing the little things. Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Wente Vineyards RR 2008. My first real bike race ever, and I was so nervous my hands were shaking. Someone mentioned at the line that I'd feel better once we started. Unfortunately, I haven't ridden in a pack like that with my new bike and the nerves became worse so that my bike was wobbly too. I just sat at the very back for the first mile or so, and then moved up before the first turn. Monday, April 28, 2008. Log: Apr 21 - 27 2008. Sun: 1 hour run (7).

Doing the little things. Thursday, January 22, 2009. Early Bird Criterium #3 2009. I was surprised because I wasn't planning to try for the sprint when I started the race. Cycling does that to me. http://speedysamo.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Doing the little things. Saturday, November 17, 2007. Updates, Contest and Records. Tuesday was the longest I've run since April - 8 miles. I'm hoping to run the same or farther tomorrow. I can hike trails and run with people again! Depending on how this goes, I'm planning to start working on speed after Thanksgiving. I have since purchased skinny tires for my bike and they are AMAZING! To Work: 1:05 (i think). To Home: 57.5. Total Miles this Week:. 105 cycling, 1 swimming, 23.5 running.

http://speedysamo.blogspot.com/2009/10/willow-hills-xc-challenge-2009.html

Doing the little things. Monday, October 12, 2009. Willow Hills XC Challenge 2009. I was totally wavering on whether to run this race or not. Because it was so far away, I told myself that I'd go if I found a carpool buddy. Found one on Friday, but Friday night I really didn't want to race. Too bad for me, now I was stuck. I think I'm mentally burnt from racing every weekend. Another YouTube video, this time of the start and finish:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Speedy Samo: September 2007

http://speedysamo.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html

Doing the little things. Saturday, September 22, 2007. I've been utilizing the empty, wide dirt-roaded Quarry Lakes park for my runs, and I keep seeing birds that look like what I think a California Condor would, up close. Finally, I checked on wikipedia, and, WOW, the rarest bird when I was growing up, now in my neighborhood! I'm awestruck and moved, even though they are a tad on the ugly. Soon to break these (mostly because I'm going to buy thinner tires). Record to work: 1:14 (9-14-07).

Doing the little things. Monday, October 26, 2009. Third, having a gel at the turnaround was great and the first time I've ever taken food while running faster than easy pace. So, that was cool. Lastly, they have BEER as an age group prize! I was so lucky that very few fast people were in my age group and I got one. Local brewery too. Yum! All in all, I don't hate half marathons like I hate 10ks. It all depends on the first experience. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Doing the little things. Thursday, September 24, 2009. JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge 2009. I wasn't really focusing on this race and decided to use it as a workout, doing about tempo pace. The race is a super flat 3.5 miles around Chrissy Field in San Francisco. Here were my random goals/wants:. Break 24 minutes (6:51 pace). Finish in the top 20 women. Speedy Samo: Kauai Loves You

http://speedysamo.blogspot.com/2010/05/kauai-loves-you.html

Doing the little things. Saturday, May 01, 2010. Asking a ton of questions at the packet pickup the day before makes me feel a lot better. Running and biking and swimming the course beforehand also makes me feel better. Shoelaces make OK race belts in a pinch. Taking a look at competitors on the start line at a small race might be a good idea. Kauai is full of micro-climates. Try to eat more during olympic distance tris than just 267 calories. On a more pleasant note, it turns out that we had 12 women in...

Acoustic! Kitty!

I Don’t Get It. I can’t put my finger on why right this second, but this column gives me the serious creeps. Part of it is probably the fact that he talks about “Sugar Bear’s” mother being a “mentally ill prostitute” when she was a victim of incest–er, oh, sorry, I mean “having had a sexual relationship” with her father. Actually, maybe that’s exactly. The reason, though I’m sure I will realize there are more once I recover from the effects of the cider I’ve consumed. This Was My Jam. Huh It Is a Mystery.

Over the last week or so, I’ve had a number of submissions of artwork that young people have made in response to my call for work to feature in our short film.
