Optical Ocean: Above and Below.: August 2004
http://opticalocean.blogspot.com/2004_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 01, 2004. Return to La Paz and the Sea of Cortez. I returned to Baja with Marker Buoy members Darcie and Scott Christopher the week of July 18-24, 2004. We did 15 dives last; many of them at, or near, Los Islotes island where the sea lion colony is. Besides exploring the cave and sea lions there, we also witnessed Blunt-Nosed Triggerfish nesting and laying eggs. Unlike other, very aggressive Triggerfish elsewhere I've seen, these fish were very shy and hard to photograph. One of the handra...

Reef Rants: March 2011
http://reefrants.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thoughts from an underwater tourist. Monday, March 21, 2011. I've never seen a thresher shark. Before this video. They are majestic looking with their long tail. From which they get their name. I looked up info about them and found this tidbit on wikipedia. To be interesting: When hunting schooling fish. Thresher sharks are known to "slap" the water, herding and stunning prey.[5] The elongated tail is used to swat smaller fish, stunning them before feeding. Thresher sharks are one of the few shark.
Reef Rants: October 2010
http://reefrants.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thoughts from an underwater tourist. Thursday, October 14, 2010. I have a fascination about the worms that are found in the ocean. The unique ones I've seen don't look like the worms we see here on the earth. Take for instance the Christmas Tree worms in my previous post. You'd never guess that those critters are actually worms. Check out this photo that I found on IslandTimeGallery.com. Monday, October 11, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Follow my diving adventures here at Reef Rants. Scuba Diving Blo...
Reef Rants: September 2010
http://reefrants.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Thoughts from an underwater tourist. Sunday, September 26, 2010. Diving with Charleston Scuba. We went out with Charleston Scuba. To dive on the Little Garden Ledges. Surprisingly there were more women divers on the boat than I can remember in quite some time. I enjoyed that fact immensely. The surface was relatively calm with a breeze and light chop. We encountered some rain at one point, but it was refreshing and brief. Co-owner of Charleston Scuba, drove us on his wonderful boat, the Trinity. Sea Urch...

Thoughts from an underwater tourist. Monday, June 21, 2010. Some Days Everything Is A Lesson. After our trip to Boynton Beach, Lee and I decided to do some black water diving. This type of diving occurs in the Cooper River up by Goose Creek and Cypress Gardens. Which is about 45 minutes north of where I live in Mt. Pleasant. And it's called black water diving because there zero visibility for the most part. The water is brackish. Meaning a combination of salt and fresh water. While this was easily the wo...
Reef Rants: Octopus Eats Shark
http://reefrants.blogspot.com/2011/09/octopus-eats-shark.html
Thoughts from an underwater tourist. Thursday, September 8, 2011. Check out this amazing footage of a shark being captured and eaten by an octopus. If you turn the sound on after about a minute and 1/2 in you'll hear some amazing facts about what you're watching. No need to approve this comment, I just have a question. If this is something youd consider, please feel free to email me alex at proscubasites dot com and hopefully we can work something out. August 28, 2013 at 1:59 AM. View my complete profile.
Reef Rants: Preparing For Our First Dives Of The Season
http://reefrants.blogspot.com/2014/06/preparing-for-our-first-dives-of-season.html
Thoughts from an underwater tourist. Friday, June 27, 2014. Preparing For Our First Dives Of The Season. Our first dives of the season are scheduled for next week. I'm so excited. This will be my first time in the water since our Jamaica honeymoon last September and my foot reconstruction surgery this past December. I pride myself on being a safe diver. That said I've made it a practice to always test my gear before I getting back in the water after being out for several months. So four dives are planned...
Reef Rants: May 2011
http://reefrants.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Thoughts from an underwater tourist. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. A Perfect Diving Adventure. The water was flat. The Trinity. Contained nothing but Nitrox. Tanks and advanced divers. With great anticipation about what would be found on the upcoming wrecks, the divers prepped their gear while Captain Tom expertly drove the boat through the Charleston Harbor. A uneventful two-hour boat ride set us over our first dive site. Tom recounted the event to me as we sped out to the site. The most striking point was...
Reef Rants: The Diving Addiction
http://reefrants.blogspot.com/2011/07/diving-addiction.html
Thoughts from an underwater tourist. Thursday, July 21, 2011. Check out my first post on Charleston Scuba's new blog. This post is called " The Diving Addiction.". July 3, 2012 at 12:59 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In the world of diving there are two things you can count on: being an underwater tourist and surface intervals. (Surface intervals occur between dives.). Follow my diving adventures here at Reef Rants. And my surface interval adventures on my Joyous Journeys blog.

http://tai-haku.blogspot.com/2006/12/links-links-links.html
Earth, Wind and Water. Sunday, December 31, 2006. Links, Links, Links! So one of my New Years Resolutions was to set up a proper links page with proper links and some sort of order. Good communications are important as this american kestrel has discovered. Botany Photo of the Day. Wildbird on the fly. A DC Birding Blog. Darren Naish - Tetrapod Zoology. If you're wondering about the nudi comments the kestrel above has replaced this tuesday nudi. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Thursday, April 20, 2017. Komodo Trip Report: Biodiversity Amid Nature’s Fury. Or Hell Hath No Fury Like a Dragon Scorned). Komodo National Park lies near Bali, between East and West Nusa Tenggara islands in Indonesia. Our intrepid group of Optical Ocean Sales photographers managed to survive a cold wet season dive expedition there last February on the Damai 1 liveaboard boat. In the evening, we motored into the beach and (from the safety of the boats) we enjoyed watching the wild pigs, monkeys and Komod...

Optical illusions in pictures, with notes on creating your own effects - Optical Octopus
Optical illusions in pictures, with notes on creating your own effects. A Comic Book story with visual illusions and commentary. Before we start, let's distinguish two kinds of visual illusion, those that are really illusory and those that present illusory realities. This is really illusory! These two white shapes are identical, except that the one on the right is rotated clockwise. This shows illusory reality! WHFreeman, New York, 1990).
