Oral Traditions: It's our choice to pass on oral traditions
http://lisaoraltraditions.blogspot.com/2009/04/its-our-choice-to-pass-on-oral.html
Monday, April 20, 2009. It's our choice to pass on oral traditions. Would we consider our parents more oral than ourselves because they are the ones closer to the oral traditions of our ancestors than we are? And they are the ones that can either keep or delete our past traditions that have been pasted on for generations? If they don't care then we don't have a chance of keeping our traditions alive. Do we blame our parents or do we demand from them the stories that we are inclined to hear?

The Smoking: January 2009
http://sorryaddressunavailable.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 29, 2009. I'm not sure what I'd do without my notebooks and paper. I suppose I'd become an archaeologist, or make pizzas. Professor S, in a recent class, asked us to think back to a time without our technologies of writing. The time of memory and speech- when scops ruled the scene and orators got the ladies. In order to even begin to grok those times, I needed to at least be able to remember what it was like to not write or read. So I started my mimetic time machine. I had fallen asleep.

Oral Traditions: What is Reverse Speech?
http://erinoraltraditions.blogspot.com/2009/04/what-is-reverse-speech.html
Tuesday, April 28, 2009. What is Reverse Speech? I stumbled across this the other day and thought it was pretty interesting. If human speech is recorded and played backwards, mixed amongst the gibberish at regular intervals can be heard very clear statements. These statements usually appear in short sentence form and are nearly always related to the forward speech. It appears constantly throughout language, so much so in fact, that it is believed to be a natural part of our speech processes. I grew up on...

Oral Traditions: March 2009
http://erinoraltraditions.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Here are the photos of my house and my memory theater. This first image is my bedroom. For my memory theater it includes the states of WY and MT because I have lived in these places most recently so I felt as though I was closest to them, hence, I get to sleep with them every night. I made my "office" area the east coast. I felt like the curtains that hang down are like fog and when I lived there it was almost always cloudy out! So the states located here are Maine, VT and NH.

Oral Traditions: Group Presentations
http://lisaoraltraditions.blogspot.com/2009/04/group-presentations.html
Friday, April 17, 2009. I think the creation of images in the oral tradition is one of the most important parts to remembering a story. The teller creates a memory theater for his or her audience internalizing each memorable point to the story. Group six i felt did an excellent job of recreating an image in my mind to help me picture each individual story as the teller engaged the audience. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am fascinated by the night sky, it reminds me of my childhood, and the stories my father would tell me about the stars, as well as the stories i would create about the constellations. These stories are burned into my mind with the image of each night time figure that i have memorized so far. Canis Major and Minor.
