Notes for Engl 337. Saturday, April 23, 2005. Today was the first day of our group presentations. Maps, Boundaries, and Dreams presented. I am sorry to say, that due to some trouble getting all of my stuff together in order to be ready for my group (Dreams) I was unable to see the first two presentations. :O( I'm really bummed about that. So, for updating/refreshing on those groups, please see either Hanna or Nikole's notes pages. I WILL FINISH THIS ASAP. :o). Posted by Jennie @ 12:28 AM.

Notes for Engl 337. Friday, April 01, 2005. It's our first class period back after spring break. I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing week. We're closing in on the end of the semester now. :O). Remember: Oral recitations of epic poems to one's soulmate will begin Thursday the 24th. Today we discussed Dr. Sexson's "Re-membering Finnegan." Jeremy and Valerie began the period by wowing us with their recitation of part of the Prank Queen section of. First we discussed the notion that. Joyce's alphabet...

Notes for Engl 337: March 2005

http://oraltraditionsnotes.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_archive.html

Notes for Engl 337. Wednesday, March 30, 2005. We began the day with a discussion of our epic poems to each other. Dr. Sexson cited Judges chapter 5:24 as a good example of what we should do:. 5:24 Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Herber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent. This shows praise and repitition; two things to be included in our odes. Remember way back to the question of the 7 Liberal Arts? Pg 89: There are many scripts but only one alphabet. Scripts (pict...

The Oral Tradition: January 2005

http://oraltraditions.blogspot.com/2005_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 27, 2005. Dr Sexson was talking about all the kinky things we do with books, all the touching, etc. While I've never intentionally done anything kinky with a book, I thought the discussion of touching and speaking (oaths, spells, etc.) was interesting. Words when combined with physical contact some how seem to have more impact. Posted by Allison at 9:07 PM. Tuesday, January 25, 2005. Brian D: www.geocities.com/fenwayfan80. Thursday, April 21, 2005. Good job everyone on their last memory feats! There were some very intersting "Top 50" picks, and everyone did a great job ( my nerves prevented me from reciting my list as well as I would have liked too.) I also think that MSU should have been at least in the top 5. Posted by Lauren Kaiser at 7:43 PM. Posted by Lauren Kaiser at 7:36 PM. Tuesday, April 19, 2005. Oral Traditions Engl 337

Oral Traditions Engl 337. Online Journal for Engl 337. Wednesday, April 13, 2005. Okay, so I'm striking out on a kind of philological bent with this post, but bear with me. The words we talked about in class on Tuesday, univocal and polyphony, say alot about their relation to orality and literacy from their etymologies. Univocal comes from uni-, one, and voc-, voice. It refers to a single utterance, where in the utterance is a voice. Posted by J.M.R. Burgard @ 8:50 PM. Monday, April 04, 2005. I watched a...

Levi of the Lost Marbles

Levi of the Lost Marbles. Wednesday, April 25, 2012. My Place in Eternity. Oral Traditions with Dr. Sexson has been the single most important class which I have taken in my college career. Here we have learned the invaluable skill of mnemonics and the "art of remembering everything." This is a skill which has been somewhat lost and mutated in the technological modern era. It was an art form prized by previous generations but nearly forgotten in ours. Or have always been and, now we re-member. These are s...
