Seams to Me: The price you pay

http://orbaseball.blogspot.com/2009/08/price-you-pay.html

Saturday, August 15, 2009. The price you pay. The Chicago Cubs handed the Pirates one of the worst losses in franchise history Friday, 17-2. It was 14-0 after two innings and the Pirates played like an amateur team. Starting pitcher Charlie Morton could not have been worse, unless he threw underhanded. The offense stunk again. Welcome to the post-trade Pirates. The big question is how many of you can take the rebuilding process if there are more games like this one? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Seams to Me: June 2009

http://orbaseball.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2009. We've seen this before. Last year, it was Xavier Nady and Jason Bay. This year, it's Nyjer Morgan and Nate McLouth. The annual summer Garage Sale the Pirates hold got under way in June with the trading of two-thirds of their starting outfield. McLouth was traded to Atlanta for prospects and a starting pitcher in Charlie Morton who looks very, well, average. In May of his second season, it was reported that Milledge appeared in a rap song, "Bend Ya Knees," by Manny D, a childhood f...

Seams to Me: September 2009

http://orbaseball.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 3, 2009. Speaking of which, I got into a discussion with one of my friends about whether a strong September really means anything. He believes it does; I believes it doesn't matter at all. Suppose the Pirates win their last 10 games of the season, then go on a nearly five-month break before spring training begins. How does that carry over? I don't think it does. Winning the last 10 games of September means that you had a nice winning streak at the end of the season. Period. To play or...

Jonesin' for Speed: February 2009

http://jonesinforspeed.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 23, 2009. The putrid racing at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana (or whatever the southern California speedway is called nowadays) had me seriously contemplating switching to the Academy Awards late Sunday night. And this is coming from a guy who, not too long ago, thought “Slumdog Millionaires” was a film about landlords and the dilapidated apartments they rent to poor tenants. Would it kill someone to initiate a green flag pass for the lead more than just a couple times over 500 miles?

Jonesin' for Speed: November 2008

Thursday, November 20, 2008. Moose Hunt" for Mike. Track operators at Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania will hold a "Moose Hunt" charity dinner this weekend for the track official injured by an out-of-control race car at a sister speedway in Indiana County. Mike “Moose” Polena, 42, of Sarver, Pa., suffered multiple injuries on Oct. 10 when an enraged driver purposely crashed into another racer. Jonesin' for Speed: July 2009

http://jonesinforspeed.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 13, 2009. The difference a series can make. Around a year ago, Dario Franchitti was beat up and washed out. Of NASCAR. Cup owner Chip Ganassi brought the former Indy star over to stock cars in 2008 in an attempt to race the woebegone No. 40 car and boost exposure to his team. But that experiment failed - miserably - and the Scotsman literally limped back to Indy Cars after a tough crash at Talladega. But now Franchitti is tearing up the IRL after winning his third race of the season.

Jonesin' for Speed: The end is nigh

http://jonesinforspeed.blogspot.com/2009/06/end-is-nigh.html

Friday, June 12, 2009. The end is nigh. Where is the guy with the sandwich board. Predicting the end of days? Because, that time is near for NASCAR fans. General Motors announced today it is cutting back its Chevrolet factory support. My biggest question is which car manufacturer Earnhardt will choose for his Nationwide team? Jonesin' for Speed: December 2008

http://jonesinforspeed.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 1, 2008. Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009. The 2008 Sprint Cup season ends with a familiar face leading the way while the economy and NASCAR itself stare down the barrel of a potentially disastrous 2009. But before we as a country and beer-drinking racing fans embark down that treacherous path, it’s time to look at the 2008 season that can be summed up by five words: Busch, blown tires and Jimmie. In one of my first blog entries, I predicted the most important stories of the year. The Car of Tod...

Jonesin' for Speed: Mark's the man

http://jonesinforspeed.blogspot.com/2009/07/marks-man.html

Saturday, July 11, 2009. Who would've thought at the start of the season that Mark Martin would be the class of Hendrick Motorsports, let alone all of NASCAR? The old man has won four times this year, as he crushed the field and his three all-star teammates Saturday night at Chicagoland. The 50-year-old fought off Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne before taking the checkers late in the Illinois night. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The difference a series can make. Jonesin' for Speed: America's meth addiction

http://jonesinforspeed.blogspot.com/2009/06/americas-meth-problem.html

Wednesday, June 10, 2009. For a while now, I’ve reserved judgment on this Jeremy Mayfield controversy because NASCAR refused to release many details about his positive drug test. But the recent revelation that Mayfield allegedly took meth is an undisputed game-changer. Methamphetamine. Is a dangerous and highly addictive drug, as I learned in my police reporting days at the Charleston (W.Va.) Daily Mail. Are unmistakable, so others should have been able to see some signs of Mayfield's alleged use. Some W...

Jonesin' for Speed: September 2008

http://jonesinforspeed.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 29, 2008. It would be a monumental understatement to say that Kyle Busch blew his shot at the Sprint Cup title. The driver and team that could do nothing wrong in the first 26 races have done nothing right over the past three weeks. And it couldn’t have happened at a worst time. Busch had what appeared to be an insurmountable 207-point lead before the Chase began, but because of the recalibrated standings. That was whittled down to merely 30 going into New Hampshire. 3 Kyle Busch (-124).
