Page 1 Page 2. The Type A Desk, described by Barry Taylor. Page 1. Type A was the first mains powered self-contained equipment to be specifically designed for use in BBC studios. Unlike today, there were no commercial manufacturers designing and building broadcast equipment in Britain, so it had to be designed 'in-house'. Some simple studio installations using OBA/8 equipment are shown here. For an example of a control room based on similar equipment see here. The pre-production model Type A desk (right).
