Observations and images describing my orchid-growing hobby and the process I use to bring miniature orchids into blossom. Monday, March 29, 2010. Is a Cuban native cattleya-like sympodial epiphyte with lightly fragrant small blossoms. This is a second blooming for my plant. Bulbos typically have stinky flowers. This one is no exception, although not the worst I have smelled. Tuberolabium kotoense is slightly fragrant - not the "heady - sweet fragrance of, say Cischweinfia sheehanae - but a mild fragrance difficult to describe. Not sure if nocturnally, it is stronger. Aerangis punctata is one of the Angraecoides originating from Madagascar. This recently described epiphytic orchid (1986) is found in the center of the island at about 4600 feet (1400m). We drove up to Clingmans Dome this morning where it was breezy, foggy and in the 60s. It was still pretty and we saw some wildflowers in bloom we haven't seen for a while. The climb to the top (6643 feet above sea level) was much easier in the coolness. The trail climbs something like 2000 feet in 1/2 mile - very steep. Ross and Dottie Frid. Tonight we dined at this great place that does great steaks (Angus only) cooked over oak fires.
