From Portland, come off I84 at exit 35 and follow the old scenic highway 1.5 miles back to the Horsetail Falls parking area. You want to find the steps down by the bridge that lead into the Gorge. It’s a lot of fun to wade upstream through the Gorge – the light, the mossy walls, getting wet – kids and adults who should know better will love it! Mazes on Sauvie Island.

One of the many waterfalls of the Columbia Gorge, this is an easy walk, and a moderate sized waterfall. Don’t be put off though, it’s also one of the most picturesque, and seldom crowded. From Portland, and, although the park says it does not have a campsite, it really does. It’s targeted at climbers, and claims to be basic, but it’s clean and has all the facilities we needed. If you’re not up for camping, you can stay in Bend. Check out the park’s website. Which, of course, has a climbing webcam! Posted in Central Oregon.
