Barley Straw Weed Control. Quick Return (QR) Composting. After the 1970's the method became less popular almost reverting to a cult following. It is our objective, as humble compost makers, to re-awaken interest in the QR composting system. Primarily aimed at gardeners and allotment holders, the method is simple to follow and can be used by anyone who is interested in growing healthy plants in an organic and sustainable way. Dave's Allotment: January 2006
http://davesallotment.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 18, 2006. Other than the areas where I still have things growing, the entire plot is now dug over - and many parts of it covered and manured. This is definitely the most organised the plot has ever been. The whole plot is pictured below left, and the Broad Beans under their cover of fleece are shown on the right. Posted by Dave at 1:55 PM. Monday, November 28, 2005. This weekend I also pulled up a handfull of leeks and some more parsnips. Posted by Dave at 1:34 PM. Monday, November 21, 2005. It was a freezing morning with the frost still very much present when I arrived. The steam pouring off the manure was incredible - looked more like a bonfire than a pile of poo! Dave's Allotment: August 2006
http://davesallotment.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 31, 2006. I also bagged up a load of weeds that I had been piling up and took them to the dump. There were also a couple of bags of junk to get rid of from the new plot that the previous owners had left behind. I then pruned out the raspberry canes that had fruited this year, and they went to the dump as well. They'd grown a bit too high to properly cover them in earth, but I raked up the soil around them as best I could (see before and after above). Posted by Dave at 1:54 PM. A few week...

The world of an allotment newcomer. The trials, tribulations and joys of getting to grips with an allotment. Friday, August 31, 2007. Back after the break. After a lovely holiday in the Netherlands we came back to find our plot in good health. Some huckleberries have also ripened and flowers are starting to appear on the squash. Posted at 5:32 pm. Sunday, August 19, 2007. I dipped halved...

NomeGrown: April 2014
http://nomegrown.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Friday, 11 April 2014. My last post, Grow Your Own Nutrition. Was all about how I'm intending to remineralise my soil for the best results in my garden and allotment, and how it's really all about feeding the soil. Not the plants - if you missed it please do take a look. The best way to remineralise a soil is to send off a soil sample to a lab, find out exactly what it's got and calculate exactly what it needs, and my new favourite book The Intelligent Gardener. 1 part seaweed meal. Seaweed meal is rich ...
