Bec’s Oxfam Challenge. The Larapinta Trail, June 2009. Walking – day 1. July 19, 2009. Started walking today. Walked from Geoff Moss Bridge to Simpson’s Gap with stops at Euro Ridge, Scorpion Pool and Hat Head Saddle. I managed to stay in the front pack so I must be fitter than I thought! We started walking at around 8.30 after a 7am pickup. Brekky at the starting point. Today was originally a short day but we ended up doing around 20km. It was a good solid day of walking. View from Euro Ridge. I’m...

Bec’s Oxfam Challenge. The Larapinta Trail, June 2009. June 26, 2009. It’s nearly 11.30pm and I’m just finishing packing. As it turns out, I’m suffering from pack anxiety. What seemed like a small amount of clothes and other sundries when spread out on the coffee table, now looks like an enormous backpack filled with what must be unnecessary things. I feel sure that everyone will look at my bag and think I’ve packed too much. Breathe… breathe… breathe…. June 22, 2009. One down, two to go…. One week to go.

Bec’s Oxfam Challenge. The Larapinta Trail, June 2009. June 22, 2009. Four days to go and finally some sunshine! The final weekend bushwalk didn’t happen, in fact on Saturday I didn’t even manage to get out of my pj’s. I am well rested though! I’ve done a practice pack of my small day pack and was pleasantly surprised that everything I need to carry fits and is light enough to be comfortable. The main pack is being driven around so it doesn’t matter so much. One down, two to go…. June 24, 2009 at 10:43 pm.

Bec’s Oxfam Challenge. The Larapinta Trail, June 2009. January 12, 2009. I am now officially in training and to mark the occasion I have new shoes. Big, clunky, glow-in-the-dark, white, bright shoes that make it impossible for me to look at my feet on a sunny day. However, they do make me feel like I’m walking on cushions so I guess they do their job. And yes, I have new shoes for it. Sleek, comfy, beautiful shoes that are red, because they go faster. Now if only my legs could keep up….
