Ornithology Course: Origin and Evolution of Birds

http://ornithologycourse.blogspot.com/2009/12/origin-and-evolution-of-birds.html

Origin and Evolution of Birds. What was our definition of a bird? Many modern vertebrate zoologists would change that to: "reptiles with feathers." Indeed, one researcher claims that birds are all that is left over from the dinosaurs- he holds for various reasons that many dinosaurs were warm-blooded. It could be that we don't have bird feeders but dinosaur feeders in our backyards. There should be a lot of material on the Internet on birds and dinosaurs. Try Googling. 3) brain structure is similar.

Ornithology Course: Archaeopteryx: the first bird

http://ornithologycourse.blogspot.com/2009/12/archaeopteryx-first-bird.html

Archaeopteryx: the first bird. Means "beginning wing." The fossil was found in Barvaria in 1860. It was always thought to be rather much a "missing link" between birds and reptiles. It comes from Jurassic period 140 million years ago and was a pigeon-sized bird. Certainly this was not the first bird, just the first we know of. Recently fossils of equal or greater age have been discovered in China. Had feathers identical to modern ones but otherwise was more a reptile than a bird:. 2) vertebrae in tail.

Ornithology Course: Taxonomy and Systematics

http://ornithologycourse.blogspot.com/2009/12/taxonomy-and-systematics.html

Naming (nomenclature) and classifying. Although I've said birds are remarkably similar, there is an astonishing range in size. A Bee Hummingbird. Has a wing span 4 in and weighs 0.5 oz. A Wandering Albatross. Wing span is 11.5 ft and it weighs 25 lb. Ostrich weigh 350 lb. We name birds according to a system of binomial nomenclature. Posted by Dan Tallman. The Sampler: Teen Sex

http://grabbaggin.blogspot.com/2011/02/teen-sex.html

Anthropologically speaking, most women would marry and start a family in their teenage years. Physically, we are capable. That is why puberty begins between 8-18 years old, and peaks as a teenager. However, the way our society has adapted makes it nearly impossible to successfully start a family during these years. I say, "Don't blame the teens, blame society! Firstly, if adults don't expect teenagers to be able to make important decisions in their lives, then who will? February 17, 2011 at 7:54 AM.

The Sampler: Cabeza de Vaca

http://grabbaggin.blogspot.com/2010/12/cabeza-de-vaca.html

In 1528, the Spaniards started to explore the west coast of Florida. Four hundred men started out on the Narváez expedition. In search of gold, one of them was Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca. He was actually one of the chief officers. Several months from departure, they landed somewhere near present-day St. Petersburg, Florida. When they didn’t find gold there, the officers decided to lead the march north. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). There was an error in this gadget. Other Awesome Sites and Blogs.

The Sampler: Ethics of Success

http://grabbaggin.blogspot.com/2011/04/ethics-of-success.html

Would you rather have your life handed to you on a silver platter or fight your way to the top? Many success stories only became success stories because of strong ambition and perseverance. For instance, Barack Obama struck politics out of poverty. Now, he is a success story. However, most people I know would want life given to them. Unfortunately underneath the obesity issue, America is a dog-eat-dog world and if you aren't fighting, then you're getting eaten. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Scienti...

http://grabbaggin.blogspot.com/2011/02/benefits-of-getting-straightening-perm.html

Benefits of Getting a Straightening Perm. Have you ever wondered what a straight perm really is? It is still a perm, but it uses thermal reconditioning to get your hair straight rather than curly or wavy. If it takes you 15 minutes to straighten your hair and you do it every weekday, then getting a perm could save you 65 hours per year! That is almost 3 days! Think what you could do with an extra three days. Getting a straight perm is also better for the environment! Of course the one problem is that you...

How to do a Backstroke Turn. Out of all the strokes in competitive swimming, the backstroke turn is by far the most difficult skill to master. Years ago, it was required to actually perform a backward somersault before pushing off the wall, but the modern way is much more simple. It will also save you seconds in a race.
