I have a small notebook which was among the personal papers of my father, David Orr - the second youngest child of Thomas and Annie Orr (nee Nimmo). My father died in 1992 aged 87. On the front cover is a sticker on which is hand written :. Mrs Thomas Orr, Glen Cottage, Root Park. I believe it to be her record of the first half of the family's voyage to Australia(see above). Where is 8 Alice Street, West End. We know that the family of Thomas and Annie Orr lived at 8 Alice Street, West End in Brisbane. They were certainly there in 1914 (Joseph Orr's enlistment papers attest this) and Thomas remained there until his death in 1938, writing to his son David from that address, the day before. Annie Orr with three unnamed children. Annie & Thomas Orr with five of their children. David (Aldyth's father), John (Andrew's father) and Catherine Orr. Aldyth has speculated the back left is William Nimmo with possibly Anna Wilson at right. Anna Wilson born 29 January 1890. George born 8 August 1891 - died 15 October 1891. Thomas Nimmo born 19 October 1892. Joseph born 3 May 1894 - died May 1915. William Nimmo born 20 November 1896. Marion Tennant born 31 January 1898 - died 1 February 1917.

Thomas and Annie (Nimmo) Orr arrived United States 12 March 1889 (just 18 days later). Anna Wilson Orr was born at Port Perry, Pennsylvania, USA on 29 Jan 1890. Thomas, Annie and Anna Orr arrived back at Glasgow 29 July 1890 (17 months after leaving). It appears the east to west crossings were between 10 to 12 days.
