Elise in the News. Elise Robinson, March 2016. Elise is 10-years-old and a 5th grader. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in her right tibia near her knee, in September 2014. Treatment began quickly at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston since it is a very aggressive cancer. Elise endured 10 weeks of punishing chemotherapy. On December 8, 2014, Elise had a surgery called rotationplasty to rid her body of the tumor. Elise is happy and has a positive attitude towards life. She has an ol...

Elise in the News. Treatment for osteosarcoma typically involves 10 weeks of chemotherapy, then surgery to remove the main tumor, then 20 more weeks of chemotherapy. Treatment can vary depending on location of the tumor, whether the cancer has spread, whether there was a bone break due to the cancer, etc. It is very important to be treated at a sarcoma center. Rotationplasty

And Elise decided right there that she wanted that option. On December 8, 2014, Elise underwent a rotationplasty procedure at MD Anderson which removed the tumor from her. A rotationplasty surgery will amputate above and below the knee, leaving the main blood vessel and main nerve intact.
