Prestbury is a village of about 6,000 people on the edge of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. It has two claims to fame; as 'The Most Haunted Village in England" and as the host of National Hunt Racing's premier meeting - the Cheltenham Festival. In the 1830's Robert BATHGATE left to work in a Brewery in Edinburgh and there he married Jane HARDIE in 1840. Their youngest son George worked for the railways and by the late 1880's was working in Fife. It was here that he married Jemima JOHNSTON from a local Balmerino family.
