Reflections from the Other Side: 2012 in Review
http://othersidereflections.blogspot.com/2013/01/2012-in-review.html
Reflections from the Other Side. Leaving Christianity and Embracing Skepticism. Monday, January 14, 2013. Okay, so 2012 wasn't exactly a banner year for Other Side Reflections in terms of activity—at least compared to the previous year, which is when I began blogging. 2011 had 170 posts while 2012 had only 39, and just eight of those came from the latter six months. In the meantime, here's an index of the posts I made in the last nine months of 2012, much as I've done in the past. Born at the Wrong Time.
Reflections from the Other Side: My Pro-Christian Bias
http://othersidereflections.blogspot.com/2011/09/my-pro-christian-bias.html
Reflections from the Other Side. Leaving Christianity and Embracing Skepticism. Friday, September 16, 2011. Everyone is subject to countless cognitive biases that pervade all aspects of their thinking—myself included. As such, a Christian might look at this blog and conclude that I'm heavily biased against Christianity. If anything, the opposite is true. At this point, why should Christianity even be worthy of my consideration. My true bias is that I've shown Christianity extensive favoritism, continuing...
Reflections from the Other Side: A Friendly Conversation
http://othersidereflections.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-friendly-conversation.html
Reflections from the Other Side. Leaving Christianity and Embracing Skepticism. Monday, May 6, 2013. Recently my dad caught up with an old friend of his. I didn't ask to use his name, so I'll just call him Steve. He became a Christian a few years ago after having been raised Muslim and remaining so for most of his life. The universally accepted meeting. Place, for some reason. To Christianity. And how I became curious in my college years of what the opposing evidence looked like, how my investigation.
Reflections from the Other Side: Life in the Open
http://othersidereflections.blogspot.com/2013/02/life-in-open.html
Reflections from the Other Side. Leaving Christianity and Embracing Skepticism. Monday, February 25, 2013. Life in the Open. In church for Christmas. Nice decor, but. It could maybe use a few more trees. It's been a little over a year since I came out. Of arguments for God, which I may work through here if it turns out to be worthwhile. (If so, I'm also thinking about formulating a version of my 30 questions. For them to read in return.). My reaction is confusion, then horror. One of the people I lov...
Reflections from the Other Side: Breaking the News
http://othersidereflections.blogspot.com/2011/12/update-youve-been-waiting-for.html
Reflections from the Other Side. Leaving Christianity and Embracing Skepticism. Saturday, December 3, 2011. Man, life can get complicated, can't it? Here's the short version of what happened in the past 24 hours: I almost threw up, Neil finally let up. And I still went ahead and came out to my parents as an atheist. Like I said, life can get complicated. Again, to be clear:. My decision to tell my parents was mine alone. You can blame him for other things, but not for that. Now then, on to what happened.

Tactics | Conversational Atheist
http://conversationalatheist.com/tactics
Here is a listing of a few tactics and gambits that can be useful in discussions and arguments. Don't take the example as though it is necessarily the best response in each case - take the essay as an example of the tactic being demonstrated. Response to: Who would Die for a Lie? Rather than attack a person’s beliefs directly invite him to understand your criticism of a position not explicitly held by either of you. An extremely forceful argument can often be made without provoking a defensive shield.
Bible: Slavery | Conversational Atheist
http://conversationalatheist.com/christianity/slavery-in-the-bible
This article on Slavery in the Bible has consistently been one of my most popular articles. I have decided to rewrite the article to be more concise and more cutting. Also, for the first time I have created a printable Pocket Reference. Click here for a Pocket Reference for this argument. The International Labour Organization. A UN specialized agency which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labor rights) says:. This claim is specific and simple to refute in pri...

Jesus: Unoriginal Moral Thinker | Conversational Atheist
http://conversationalatheist.com/christianity/jesus-allow-yourself-to-be-slapped-repeatedly
Jesus: Unoriginal Moral Thinker. Oftentimes a new conversation can be started with a single surprising statement. Saying, for example:. I wish Jesus taught even one. Admittedly, this is worded in a provoking way - so decide for yourself if and when to throw out such a statement. Also, you should have some idea what kind of response people might give. It might be handy to have this verse in your back pocket:. Fools show their anger at once, but the prudent ignore an insult. Or some other variant. For you ...
Mohammad: Sex with 9 year old | Conversational Atheist
http://conversationalatheist.com/islam/mohammads-moral-example-could-be-improved
Mohammad: Sex with 9 year old. Consists of quick examples of a specific technique that can be employed during the course of a debate or discussion to help give you an advantage. Argue for the most defensible claim that is fundamentally devastating to your opponent's position. For example: An atheist who argues ' Mohammad. Was the worst person who ever existed and nothing he said was ever worthy of consideration', will be far less effective than a person who goes out of his way to be conciliatory. It has ...
Jesus: Unacceptable Sacrifice | Conversational Atheist
http://conversationalatheist.com/christianity/jesus-unacceptable-sacrifice
If they have to come up with their own, many times they end up with the canonical answer, but they more frequently come up with an argument that I have not heard of otherwise. I find this to be useful to both me (I get the widest range of possible responses) and the Christian/theist that I'm talking to (they have to come up with why they think the way they do). For example, let's consider:. What specifically about the death of Jesus fulfills the requirements for a sacrifice given in the Old Testament?

Jesus: Possibly Acceptable Child Sacrifice | Conversational Atheist
http://conversationalatheist.com/christianity/jesus-possibly-acceptable-child-sacrifice
Jesus: Possibly Acceptable Child Sacrifice. I have previously written that Jesus was an Unacceptable Sacrifice. Nothing about Jesus' death even remotely resembled the requirements for an acceptable sacrifice as written in the Old Testament. Jesus was not killed by Jewish priest, wearing the proper vestments, and his entrails were not burned on the altar, to name just a few. What, specifically, were the requirements for an acceptable sacrifice? Why did Jesus run away? I've actually asked this question to ...

Reflections from the Other Side
Reflections from the Other Side. Leaving Christianity and Embracing Skepticism. Saturday, May 14, 2016. Donald Trump, the Anti-Skeptic. Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that last week Donald J. Trump became the presumptive Republican nominee for president of the United States. Trump believes climate change is a deliberate hoax, and uses cold local weather as evidence. Any and all weather events are used by the GLOBAL WARMING HOAXSTERS to justify higher taxes to save our planet! Trump late...
