Our Backyard Hens: Naming Chickens

We live in Colorado Springs, CO. We are first time chicken owners of a small backyard flock. Monday, June 27, 2011. Here's an excellent shot I got of Omelette while she was in the nesting box. She is still by far our friendliest hen. Not a lap bird by any means, but she always comes running when we come outside. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Colorado Springs, CO, United States. Our Backyard Hens: Four Weeks Old and Moving Out

We live in Colorado Springs, CO. We are first time chicken owners of a small backyard flock. Sunday, June 5, 2011. Four Weeks Old and Moving Out. I think I'm starting to take this chicken thing a bit too far. They grow SO fast! Omelette was very interested in the new additions. They loved the dirt box I put in the corner. There were lots of ants in the dirt, and they went crazy for them! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Colorado Springs, CO, United States. I am a wife, mom, and high school teacher.

We live in Colorado Springs, CO. We are first time chicken owners of a small backyard flock. Thursday, December 30, 2010. The First Big Storm. Putting up the roof. The hardware cloth on the roof to protect the girls from flying predators. Temporary location. This picture was taken around 1:00 pm. This picture was taken at about 1:30 pm. The girls are nice and warm. And here's one of the "chicks.". Tuesday, December 28, 2010. So we opted for railroad ties to set the coop on top of. The big girls are doing...
Our Backyard Hens: We're at it again...
http://ourbackyardhens.blogspot.com/2011/05/were-at-it-again.html
We live in Colorado Springs, CO. We are first time chicken owners of a small backyard flock. Saturday, May 14, 2011. We're at it again. We decided to use our downstairs bathtub as the brooder for this go around. We'll see how it goes. All ready for the drive to get the new baby chicks! Inside this box, there is cuteness. They are all so different. They don't stand still for long. It's hard to believe they are all the same breed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Colorado Springs, CO, United States.

Our Backyard Garden
Doug, Anne, William, Faith, and Kate Growing in every season. Saturday, October 17, 2009. Here is our little house in Southern Pines. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. We have lived here now for about five months. The landscape in North Carolina is so beautiful. It's amazing that we have a yard so green and it doesn't even need sprinklers (that's my favorite part because Doug used to constantly work on our sprinklers)! It is so private and I love that! Friday, October 16, 2009. Here we are in Sout...

Our Backyard Hens
We live in Colorado Springs, CO. We are first time chicken owners of a small backyard flock. Saturday, April 14, 2012. Winter was rough on our hens this year. The molt lasted about two full months. If it weren't for our young EE's, we would have had to buy eggs from the grocery store! They started to lay again right around the new year. There were feathers everywhere. And here they are at about a week old. Posted by Rebecca Swanson. Saturday, October 29, 2011. The Great Molt of 2011. Chickens molt about ...

Grow Kale - No Garden Necessary. 0160; I was so pleased this fall when we put the house on the market to have just enough growing in the garden to hopefully make it a selling point rather than an eyesore. I had a few tomato plants, a couple peppers, lots of basil, onions and kale-mighty, impressive kale! I stopped by the house last week to pick a little kale and brought home two huge shopping bags full! 0160; I would have easily spent $30 to buy that much organic kale from the grocery store! Now about t...
