The 12 Step Path: August 2011
http://12steppath.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
The 12 Step Path. Monday, August 29, 2011. Where is the Road of Happy Destiny? How do you imagine it looks? Is it an unpaved track, strewn with brightly colored, changing leaves of Autumn? Is it a smooth passage splashed with bright sunshine, rolling green hills on either side? Does it boast an open vista of blue skies and puffy white clouds drifting lazily? A Florida elder statesman in the Fellowship, Sandy B., refers to the Big Book as a treasure map. It is not. The treasure itself, but it will. Book, ...

The 12 Step Path: May 2012

The 12 Step Path. Tuesday, May 29, 2012. On The Firing Line. This Memorial Day,. It was difficult to avoid reflecting on war. As we honor the brave soldiers who have died fighting for a cause and/or fighting for survival, I think I might understand, albeit in very limited capacity, what it must be like – watching your fellows fall beside you against an unrelenting enemy. Also wonder at times if I am only there at the front line as a spiritual medic, to carry away the wounded. We are allowed to match cala...

The 12 Step Path: September 2011

The 12 Step Path. Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Recovery - A True Alchemy. Turning lead into gold. It's what the ancient predecessors to our modern scientists, the alchemists, aspired to - the art of transformation. Or more importantly, "to perfect or evolve the substance at hand; to change something that is inferior, imperfect or unacceptable into something better and closer to what they desire." *. As Bill Sees It. The triangle in the circle, was an ancient symbol used to ward off "evil. Where our souls...

The 12 Step Path: December 2011

The 12 Step Path. Tuesday, December 27, 2011. The Spirit of the Season Everyday. T'is the season and the spirit of it is everywhere! Especially amongst the Fellowship! For most of the world, whether your tradition is religious or secular, it is considered the season of gift giving. Whether those gifts are wrapped in brightly-colored packages with ribbons or they are gifts of time with family or friends or doing charitable deeds for the needy, the spirit is one of giving. The work and self-sacrifice for o...

The 12 Step Path: June 2012
http://12steppath.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
The 12 Step Path. Thursday, June 21, 2012. If you were like some of us, when we first came into the Program, we were less afraid of our own ultimate demise than the dreaded thought of how in the world we were going to Live Sober AND be happy! I always associated the word "sober" with "judge" from the old saying "sober as a judge" and I was none too fond of the magistrates. The newcomer is offered "the choices" - doomed to an alcoholic death or Spiritual way of life? But, but, isn’t there a Door # 3?

The 12 Step Path: April 2012
http://12steppath.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
The 12 Step Path. Friday, April 27, 2012. Pass It On, Brother. I often wonder what my life would have been like had I never been offered hope from a recovering alcoholic. In fact, when I have the occasional “drunk dream”, I wake up grateful and shudder to think that in a parallel universe, I might still be living in the nightmare that was my disease of addiction. Step promises says that ‘frequent contact with newcomers is the bright spot of our lives.”. And it really is for this alcoholic. You will make ...

The 12 Step Path: October 2011

The 12 Step Path. Thursday, October 13, 2011. What's On Your Mind (Or NOT on your mind, for that matter)? Many people seem confused about what meditation is, or isn't, and often mistake contemplation for meditation. Not to say that a contemplative thought can not lead into meditation, as it certainly can and often times does. I hope this doesn't all sound like "pretzel-logic" (thank you, Steely Dan), but think about this. So, contemplation is a form of thinking. Thinking is engagement of the mind....

The 12 Step Path: January 2012

The 12 Step Path. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Tick Tock, 2012. 8220;People are always shouting they want a better future. It’s not true. The future is an apathetic void of no interest to anyone. The past is full of life eager to irritate us, provoke us and insult us, tempt us to destroy or repaint it. The only reason people want to be masters of their future is to change the past.”. 8211; Milan Kundera, “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”. But is this like any other year? Once, when I was actually in Mex...
