Villa Kalos- our Greek Guesthouse. Our quest to renovate an old ruin into a boutique guest house. Sunday, June 19, 2011. Ipad in hand we arrived straight from our flight from Cape Town via Dubai at Ikea near Athens airport. It was 4pm. By 930 pm and 5 loaded trolleys later, we reached the tills. Upstairs they already switched off the lights. The shop officially closed at 9pm! Then, finally an ice cold Mythos on the roof top terrace of the hotel, overlooking the Acropolis. Only 4 years ago, Villa Kalos was still a ruin, completely abandoned, when Gerda and Robbert saw the potential. With much love and care and lots of help from the locals, they transformed this ruin into an exquisitely luxurious, yet completely unpretentious boutique villa that will open for guests in 2011. Each bedroom (only 4 in total) is different, with hand-picked furnishings, fabrics and accents. The exposed stone, concrete and wood of the structure provide a perfect framework for the harmonious mix of the interior design.
