http://theprairiewife.blogspot.com/2014/02/february-update.html
Wednesday, February 19, 2014. The weather has been beautiful the last few days, though I do not believe Winter is over yet for us. I've been washing only what was needed for so long, it was nice to be able to wash and have the lines full of snapping, drying clothes. I hope and pray). Mariama with last year's kid. The house is coming along at a slow clip, b...

The Prairie Wife: The Demise of the Countryside
http://theprairiewife.blogspot.com/2015/01/today-we-attended-basic-training.html
Friday, January 30, 2015. The Demise of the Countryside. Today we attended the Basic Training Graduation for a friend of PD#1. He has been in Civil Air Patrol with her the past two years, and they have attended several encampments/activities together. So we joined his family and girlfriend at the base to celebrate this great milestone in his young life. The number of people living in one house? I miss the America of my youth. Was I blind? Did I not see or not yet understand what was coming? I remember th...

http://theprairiewife.blogspot.com/2013/05/they-are-here.html
Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Fern and her new babies! Fern started rooting around and making a nest last night. She was due on Monday by my figuring, but I guess I was off by a couple of days :). I was so excited! Only one has an all black head like the mama, the others resemble Wilbur more. With care, we are hoping a large majority make it. We plan to butcher two in the Fall/Winter and sell the others in about a month. Posted by Amy E. May 23, 2013 at 1:12 PM. Congratulations, there adorable. 70 eggs so far.

Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Stoking up the Stove! It has been a busy time for us, and this past weekend was even busier. First, we went out to my sister's house about an hour North of here to cut up and haul home a large Red Oak tree. The tree had fallen during a recent rain storm (5 inches of rain! It won't be good for this year's wood, but next Winter we have a jump on our supply. In addition, we have 200 bales of hale on the place for the livestock's Winter feed. So thankful to receive! PD#2 is exce...

http://theprairiewife.blogspot.com/2015/06/preparation-in-little-steps.html
Thursday, June 18, 2015. Preparation in little steps. I was shocked to see it had been six months since I had posted anything. Life sure flies by! I purchased more Freedom Ranger chicks in April, only to have 25 of them wiped out by a possum last week (June 10). Very upsetting. That is my food. This is the first time we have had this happen, and I am stumped as to how it go inside a locked building. No holes or openings anywhere. PD#1 (left) with her BFF. Graduating together from HomeSchool. We planted a...

The Prairie Wife: Heading into Harvest Time
http://theprairiewife.blogspot.com/2014/08/heading-into-harvest-time.html
Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Heading into Harvest Time. It's that time of year again. With temperatures in the high 90s and 100s, everything is looking a little crispy. We haven't had significant rain in a couple of months, and we are at the point of needing rain now, or purchasing hay for the animals. 2 cows = covers 2 acres. 10 goats = 5 acres. 4 beehives = 3 acres. 2 pigs = extra. The 2nd floor bedrooms and loft have been insulated, and it is greatly helping with the heat. It should also help with ...
