Holiday Home Tour 2014. Wee Eat: Costco Favs. 7 / 20 / 15. Costco and I are BFF E. I mean, bulk cheese, double rider shopping carts, and $1.25 hot dogs. What’s not to love? Fresh fruits veggies. Did you know that Costco just passed Whole Foods. For largest retailer of organic items? So cheap too. Our bi-weekly grabs are spinach, berries, bananas ($1.39 a bunch! Apples and sometimes I get fancy with a delicious shaved brussel sprout salad. Pantry staples. You won’t find me stocking up on 50 pound bags...

Holiday Home Tour 2014. Category Archives: Baby Ahrens. Well that escalated quickly: Lucy Anne, a birth story. You may have seen by all of the pictures and general gushing on every social media platform that our littlest gal pal, Lucy Anne arrived safe and sound on her due date, November 24th! Her quick arrival and sweet temperament feels like a victory prize for enduring such a hard year. Tuesday morning… no baby. We walked Hudson to preschool (3 miles! Soundtrack like the crunchy, hippie mother I am...

Tuesday, March 27, 2012. A long, long time ago, the folks at Vegie Fresh. Contacted me and asked if I'd be interested in trying their product. It's supposed to keep your veggies nice and crispy-like, which I was into because nothing chaps my hide like soggy spinach. Plus, I just use it for smoothies, so I'm not above eating some slightly slimy greens. (Ew. Sorry for that confession.). Some leftover cauliflower also stood the test of time pretty well - hanging on a good 11 days before succumbing to spots ...

Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Last summer, we took advantage of Direct TV's deal where you can cancel service for up to six months. And we survived the long, dark winter with just Hulu and local stations. Well, it took paying just one full bill for us to start tossing around the idea of dropping the dish for real. Forever. 100 per month just for me to mindlessly zone out to Snooki and Jwoww once a week and binge on Bar Rescue marathons on Sundays just isn't a good value. It's hard to tell. It has been almost ...

Tuesday, February 12, 2013. Of the three projects we've been chipping away at lately (bathroom, baby room, home office), I'm so excited to say that one is totally done! The home office is all set up and has already seen some major productivity out of this gal. So, I'm the world's worst DIY blogger in that I was sure I had before pictures of this basement corner when it was the fooseball table's home, but I was sorely mistaken. So, you get a screen shot from our basement before and after video:. Follow me...

Friday, March 8, 2013. Quittin' time, boss. I've been a 100% work-from-home employee for about a month now. It's been an adjustment, for sure. I love not having a commute and not having to jam my up-40-pounds self into respectable business attire for 8 hours a day, but the lack of face-to-face interaction with real humans is kind of a bummer. Luckily, I have two feline office mates who are more than willing to get all up in business and make sure my work-life balance stays balanced. Follow me on Twitter.

Wednesday, January 30, 2013. All has been seemingly quiet on the Bigger, Better, Best front for a few weeks. We ditched the never-ending horror that is living among three in-progress re-dos and headed east then south for some baby shower action. First up, was a brunch soiree in Chicago. Hubs' mom went all out, decorating each table with a different kids' book, which was adorable. There was also a Pete the Cat table, in homage to our crazy cat person-ness. Can't beat a classic - Goodnight, Moon. And my da...

Friday, June 29, 2012. It was just three weeks ago that I declared that this would be a project-free summer. No major overhauls, no weekends spent chugging Fraps and darting back and forth to Home Depot, no stress, no nothing except pool days, weddings and rum. Well, I'm a huge stinking liar. Yesterday, Hubs and I came to a realization:. Tiling the kitchen floor would require us pulling up two layers of vinyl, laying a new subfloor and then - actually tiling. Gag me with a spoon! Tuesday, April 9, 2013. You got beat by a pregnant girl. Hubs and me, pre-run, complete with giant, swollen preggo face. The course was pretty flat and it was a super amazing sunny, 60 degree day - perfect for getting all kinds of sweaty and not finishing last. Oh hells to the flippin' no, man. This is what 37 minutes of running does to a woman who is 37 weeks with child. Hubs got nervous. I remained confident that we would not literally be the last people to finish. Hubs (who literally could have sped-w...

Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Bathroom Bump Up: You thought we were done? But, one major eyesore loomed. You see, kindly reader, previous bathroom renovators failed to seal the grout in the shower, resulting in horribly disgusting grout lines that refused to budge no matter what manner of noxious chemicals I poured on them and how much grease my elbows did put forth. The original plan was to do a quick and dirty fix - scrape out the old grout and slap on some new, white, sealed grout. So, last weekend. Bathro...

Tuesday, September 18, 2012. What to Wear Where: Transition to Fall Fashion. Welcome to What to Wear Wear. Jazz hands* - a weekly link-up in which we get together to brainstorm outfits for events actually happening in our lives. Oh, the #firstworldfashionproblems of it all - what to do when you live in a place where cooler fall temperatures just can't arrive quickly enough? When fall colors couldn't look worse on your (pasty) complexion? At least the bag is shielding us from the leg pastiness . . . I'm j...
