Little House on the Suburban Prairie: December 2011
http://www.oursuburbanprairie.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 31, 2011. I have a fascination with time. I find myself feeling incredibly bound by it, yet also being fully aware of just how arbitrary it is. But it helps us to mark significant events in our lives and to occasionally pause to remember them. So, in true form to New Year's Eve tradition, we'd both like to present you with our year in review. Accomplishments (in no particular order). We made our own cheese for the first time. And it's pretty good! Wreaked havoc on our waistlines. We di...

Sunday, June 24, 2012. Normally I'm pretty appalled by the egregious use of corn in the USA. Thanks to corn syrup and other bi-products, it's in everything. I mean, a nicely grilled ear of corn on the cob is one thing. Maybe I can get used to it in various starchy products like cereal and tortillas. But corn in my cookies? And even orange juice? There is really only one ingredient that should be involved in orange juice. I'll give you a hint: it starts with "O" and ends in "RANGE". 3 tbsp canola oil.

Sunday, August 12, 2012. The current weather is very agreeable to our tomatoes, but not before they got some blight. July was wetter than normal and our tomatoes got a fungal infection. The cure - cut off the blighted parts and throw them away. Here are some pictures of the damage:. And now the moment you've all been waiting for - the recipe. This pasta dish was taken from the Pioneer Woman's website: http:/ thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2012/08/buttery-lemon-parsley-noodles/. Salt And Pepper, to taste.

Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Charlie Brown Pear Tree Update. I thought that I would update everyone on our Charlie Brown tree we tried to save last year. It is still alive and seemingly doing well! Sunday, July 15, 2012. I'm sure I've mentioned once or twice that Helo has his own concept of gardening and landscaping. Typically it involves digging a large hole, at the bottom of which is some thick root that he thinks would make an excellent play stick if only it would leave the ground. His antics don't u...

Documenting life, change, and finally growing up. Sunday, August 21, 2011. OK, I did it again. I ignored The Blog while life intervened. In the meanwhile, though, some Stuff happened. 1 We got moved. 2 We had visitors - my husband's oldest 2 kids, their mom, and their younger sister visited. 3 We went to go see my husband's family for their annual family vacation. 4 We got rid of internet at home. 5 We had a few weeks of breathlessly hoping that we could afford to make it through August. No, we don't hav...

Documenting life, change, and finally growing up. Friday, September 2, 2011. We moved away from the coast in July 2009 and since then have been back to visit Santa Cruz exactly once. We're going back tomorrow for the long weekend. I hope there is fog. I hope we find weirdness. I hope we can walk down Pacific Avenue Mall and visit the pizza joint and Bookshop Santa Cruz and glance up to see the bands playing at the Catalyst that we'll never pay money to see. Oh, Santa Cruz. I miss you, and I fear goin...

Documenting life, change, and finally growing up. Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Here's an interesting exercise. Give away 1/3 of your possessions, decide that another 1/6 is trash. Then move into a place 2/3 the size of your current home. Then watch your things multiply! This was our fatal error: not taking into account the fact that the garage doesn't "count" in the square footage of our house. So 1500 feet is actually, well, a lot more. He wears the same 3 things every week! Ironically, I think the only st...

Documenting life, change, and finally growing up. Thursday, August 25, 2011. Last year around this time a bunch of my friends had suggestive Facebook statuses: "I like it on the kitchen table," "I like it on the floor," etc. It was one of those breast cancer awareness "campaigns," where you were supposed to write where you keep your purse as your status. Those out of the loop were supposed to be scratching their heads at how saucy these people were while the rest of us giggled. I was pretty upset. I gues...

Twilight Living Room – And Other Rantings. Monday, November 21, 2011. Did anyone see the new Twilight movie over the weekend? I thought it was pretty good! Although, I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that “movie Edward” isn’t my “book Edward”. No offense to Robert Pattinson….you were lovely in Water for Elephants…. 8230;but you kind of creep me out in the Twilight movies…and I’m so sorry sweetie-pie, but you’re just not my Edward. . Do you need more visual aids? Carrie Underwood’s legs in that.

Thursday, February 15, 2018. Construction 3rd Birthday Party. For Eli's third birthday we had a super fun Construction theme! I made this cake. It was so easy because it didn't have to be perfect. I used these trucks. Chocolate frosting (homemade), and crushed oreos! Paintbrush rice krispie treats! Dipped in Wilton Candy Melts. Amazing photo prop made by friend and photographer Precisely Joy. Every guest had their photo taken. Black tape in lines that kids could push to race. Safety Cone Ring Toss. You l...

I'm the other mother. Or Momma Deb. Our family is pretty much like every other family in suburbia. The girls go to school, one mom is on the PTA boards of elementary and middle school. The other mom goes to work, paints, writes, and tries to just have a good time raising kids with her partner. This is my third attempt at blogging. Thursday, April 30, 2009. Posted by Deb Heller. Thursday, March 19, 2009. Wish I Had Thought of This. The nerd in me wishes I had thought of this at one time or another:. Sea s...
