at harvest end: you say potayto and I say potahto
http://outofthisworldgardening.blogspot.com/2014/12/you-say-potayto-and-i-say-potahto.html
Tuesday, December 9, 2014. You say potayto and I say potahto. How quickly the annual vege club Great Potato Weigh-In comes around. Is a meal going to be cooked? Can my bed be made? Maris Anchor was the variety, a little bit boring as a new potato in my opinion; in fact, boring as a main crop too I should think. The leopard doesn't change its spots. I frisked them in the big old bath. Gotta keep that gorgeous soil for something special; heaped it around the celery plants and a lone broccoli. You say potay...
at harvest end: Christmas pickings
http://outofthisworldgardening.blogspot.com/2014/12/christmas-pickings.html
Friday, December 19, 2014. It doesn't mean anything to you, that path and the strip of ground beside it. They shouldered the broken concrete from the big dig, which is now being re-assimilated as back-fill for the retaining wall. It's win/win/win. Walking up to the worm farm/chickens/garden is no longer an obstacle course and I have an interesting ribbon of dry/sheltered ground to fill with even more interesting plants. The season has been slow thus far; a few hot days and how quickly everything takes off.
at harvest end: December 2013
http://outofthisworldgardening.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 8, 2013. So I'm flinging out the chores in all directions only to find out that some things are 'not my job' or there is some unwritten rule that if I have done one thing then it is a mysterious other's turn. Fortunately we have a building project on the go sufficient to keep all hands busy and make the most of our real, live, on-hand labour force; the best kind. So I will see how the little concrete wall goes to warm the courgette's toes. Oh here we are, below, an aerial view. Milk ...
at harvest end: embarrassing gardens
http://outofthisworldgardening.blogspot.com/2014/12/embarrassing-gardens.html
Friday, December 26, 2014. The world could be divided between those who are fascinated by Embarrassing Bodies. And those who aren't. My limited research sides with the principle that opposites attract and I suggest that people who watch it, watch it alone because their partner can't stand it and has sloped off to bed. When you grow them, and pick every other day, there is a moment when it seems the supply will never end. You just eat them up, or make jam. I have identified a number of tasks to set the ti...
at harvest end: Recollections
http://outofthisworldgardening.blogspot.com/2015/02/recollections.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2015. There was a gap between taking the photos, and the writing of it this week, and I've already moved on to other things, but let me dredge my mind. Why did I take these photos? The cucumbers seemed like a greater triumph, for some reason, than tomatoes and basil; all three are amazing just because they are home grown. How often do I say that? I was given 3 different strawberry varieties this year that I am keen to trial. First step is multiplication. Just the one runner ...That ...

A parcel a week: A good enough life.......
http://aparcelaweek.blogspot.com/2011/03/good-enough-life.html
A parcel a week. Saturday, March 26, 2011. A good enough life. So what makes life good enough. I've been thinking about this and this week have had plenty of opportunities to think about what that means in practice. Well for me it is making the most of everything even when everything is imperfect. SO here's to a good enough week. Labels: green tomato pickle. March 27, 2011 at 1:18 AM. The title of this blog is really depressing. I think I just will die if my life ends up being only good enough. A...Since...

A parcel a week. Saturday, February 19, 2011. The blog that languished . I would never have thought that it was possible. I am reminded that you always need a lot less than you think and that applies not just to plots of land. That's my garlic crop - grown from the bulbs Miriam gave me last winter. I think that will keep me going for a month or two at least. Heres to a week of no plans. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). All and Sundry At Maitland St: SOphie is in Colombia
http://maitlandsteep.blogspot.com/2010/09/sophie-is-in-colombia.html
All and Sundry At Maitland St. Sunday, September 12, 2010. SOphie is in Colombia. SOphie spent a couple of nights in cartagena, and now she is hiking through rivers and through jungles with only a filthy blanket at night and coffee to keep her going, up a trail that mainly has a 70% incline! Take a look at this! Labels: Photos she is on the Lost City Trail. Ahoy there Kerry - you did not say you have a blog! I found you by supersleuthing. That is very cool. Welldid I not tell you? Miss Smith (at home).

A parcel a week. Thursday, September 15, 2011. So why carry on with this thing? I have been in my new job for exactly one year this week. I have also had a whole week based at home. A parcel a week: Objects of beauty include - woodpiles!
http://aparcelaweek.blogspot.com/2011/07/objects-of-beauty-include-woodpiles.html
A parcel a week. Saturday, July 23, 2011. Objects of beauty include - woodpiles! It's been a crazier than usual time. Tom turned 20 and Rosie came home for 10 days before heading back to Wellington. We went to the Catlines for a few very cold but very relaxing days. It's strange to think that I no longer have any teenagers. Probably just as well. A young whipper snapper called me Grandma at the harry potter movie the other day! Heres to a week of keeping warm. July 24, 2011 at 2:48 PM. That is a deluxe w...

http://aparcelaweek.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
A parcel a week. Thursday, November 18, 2010. Look - I have Chloe here as proof of that. I was indignant that the universe had not complied with my request. Fool that I am - the necessary learning was for Tom to persevere and find his own placement. At the 11th hour he did! And is now having a great time and a well earned sense of satisfaction that he made this happen without the help of his mother! Friday, November 5, 2010. Chloe and her Cake . The little girl was really happy with the cake and Chloe go...

Sunday, March 4, 2018. A long overdue photo, Bill contemplates his chilled chocolate stout, his secret-simon-santa gift that was much appreciated. This is a 500g punnet of pesto. The playing card is for perspective. I had a great crop of basil and along with some self-sown dill and parsley, it has kept the whitefly away from the tomatoes. I pleased I froze quite a bit of pesto. The plants I left in are a darker green now and the pesto is not as good. Photo round-up part one. We moved the wood out the bac...

We're working on Marshall memorizing our address and phone number. Today we were practicing in the boys room as Coen played. Here's what I came up with. Marshall's favorite...
