Emergency rooms should be a place that you can come to get seen for your 'emergency' in a timely fashion. If you have to sit there and wait for hours on end, in a room full of other sick and injured people, there is a good chance the initial problem will get worse, and therefor take more time to correct once you finally do see the doctor.
