Symphony 2: A CMS to Build a Dream On. The creator of Godbit.com. Has asked if I was up for doing a Godbit interview. I have appreciated Nathan’s support by giving nods to my work on Godbit.com and on Stylegala.com. As well as his support for web standards, Textpattern and for raising the bar for designers of church websites. What inspired you to strike out on your own and start a web design business? For those that are not familiar with Bauhaus, would you explain the inspiration behind the name Bauhouse?

Overture, the Symphony forum, has launched. Is here at last. Thank you Symphony Team. Content is a little sparse at the moment, but it’s great to see the guys at Twentyone Degrees keeping to their commitments. I am sure that there will be a flood of interest as the public can see what the team has been up to behind the scenes. I’ve been a little slow to give this application a go, but it appears that now is the time to start tinkering. 31 January 2006 by Stephen Bau. Fixed Width - Narrow.

XSLT Transformation of ICS to XML. An XSLT Template to Convert iCalendar Files to xCalendar Files. I wanted to find an XSLT template that would be able to parse an iCalendar ICS file into an XML format that would work well with the calendar application I had built with XSLT and Symphony. What I found was an XSLT template that converted XML to ICS. I found nothing that was able to reverse the process. So I created an XSLT template that can convert ICS to the xCalendar. The Seeds of an Idea. Necessity is the Mother of Invention. For close to fifteen years, I have been searching for a way to run a design business that helps me work better, but also works the way I want it to. I still haven’t found what I’m looking for, so I’m building it. But not without the help of a very talented crew of web application developers, Twentyone Degrees. The Idea Began with an Application. Why build something that already exists? That type of portability is non-existent in other solutions.

A Project Management Tool. Not another project management application! Yes, another one. While in search of tools that could simplify the administration of my design business, I found that software would force me to work a certain way, depending on what I was working on. Duplication of data entry was the biggest frustration. For a freelance business, it would be ideal to enter data once and be able to view information in many forms without having to switch from one application to another.

The First Step in Building a Design Administration Application. To develop a design business administration application, it is essential to be able to keep track of time, schedule appointments, process phases and deadlines. This means that a calendar will be one of the first requirements. It is also possible to glean templates that perform date and time functions from EXSLT.org. Depends on the the EXSLT.org. The Intersection of Design and Business. The design business is a world of proprietary systems, trade secrets and intellectual property. But we live in an open source information environment. How do these two worlds mesh? How do we continue to make money when our skills are devalued by the democratization of design tools? Can we maintain design standards in a free-for-all information society? The Seeds of an Idea. A Project Management Tool. XSLT Transformation of ICS to XML. Fixed Width - Narrow.
