Sunday, 19 October 2014. Arts and Crafts Fair. The Reading Room held an Arts and Crafts Fair on 18 October in aid of their funds. The event was well attended both by exhibitors and customers. What a wealth of talent there is! There was a wide range of stalls covering all sorts from model airplanes to proggy mats to audio recordings and even loom bands. Ovingham lies on the north bank of the River Tyne, 15 miles upstream from the City of Newcastle. Ovingham is immediately north of Prudhoe. The modern parish covers an area of approximately three square kilometres on a terrace above the north bank of the river. The western boundary of Ovingham parish is the Whittle Dene burn. The southern boundary is the Tyne itself.

Ovingham is an ancient parish and village in the Tyne Valley in south Northumberland. It lies on the River Tyne 16 kilometres (10 miles) east of Hexham. The name is of Saxon origin and means homestead of the sons of Offa. Anglo-Saxon people settled in the Tyne Valley in the years after 590 AD. The present village of Ovingham probably stands on the sites of one or two small farms.
