Heelwalker1: Rocks, ropes & conquering fear with Lakeland Ascents
http://heelwalker1.blogspot.com/2013/06/rocks-ropes-conquering-fear-with.html
From high heels to high hills. Friday, 14 June 2013. Rocks, ropes and conquering fear with Lakeland Ascents. To say I was out of my comfort zone is putting it mildly. Rock-climbing and abseiling are things that in my mind other people do. However, when the opportunity came to spend the day with Lakeland Ascents. We met Si from Lakeland Ascents. Equipped with hard hats we headed over to the crag to begin rock-climbing. Scout Crag - my first rock climbing challenge! Me on a rock. I recovered a little bit o...

Heelwalker1: Tilly, Skiddaw & Sledging
http://heelwalker1.blogspot.com/2012/12/tilly-skiddaw-sledging.html
From high heels to high hills. Tuesday, 18 December 2012. Tilly, Skiddaw and Sledging. Arriving at the car-park. Following the success of the last Twitter group walk (in terms of fun rather than navigation at least) we decided to set forth again, this time heading for Skiddaw Little Man, Skiddaw, Bakestall and back around the Cumbria Way on a 12 mile horseshoe route. What could possibly go wrong? A rather misty Skiddaw. Tilly in action in the mist. Tilly was scampering around and having a great time.

Heelwalker1: January 2014
http://heelwalker1.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
From high heels to high hills. Tuesday, 7 January 2014. Book Review: "Lake District Woodland Walks". It takes a lot to persuade me away from lakes and mountains when I am walking in the Lake District. It is such a beautiful place that I am always after extensive views so have never really explored the spectacular woodlands in the area. I have recently put that right with the help of Northern Eye’s “Lake District Woodland Walks”, written by Vivienne Crow. I tried one of them to find out. To take when ther...

Heelwalker1: February 2014
http://heelwalker1.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
From high heels to high hills. Friday, 21 February 2014. A crisp sunny day beckoned and I had Tilly the beautiful Labrador for company so we headed for the fells. Catbells was our destination. Tilly was beyond excited as we walked through the woods on the Cumbria Way in the grounds of the Lingholm Estate, running back and forth, jumping at leaves and paddling in the stream. She is such lovely company. The view from the summit. Tilly on the summit. After soaking up the views we headed down the other side ...

Heelwalker1: Ashdown Forest (or Winnie-the-Pooh land!)
http://heelwalker1.blogspot.com/2011/11/ashown-forest-or-winne-pooh-land.html
From high heels to high hills. Monday, 21 November 2011. Ashdown Forest (or Winnie-the-Pooh land! Ashdown Forest also has a rich heritage and history (other than Winnie-the-Pooh). To highlight just a few areas, it as an important part of the iron-making history of England, a hunting forest since the Norman times and it had a key role in World War II (including being the base for Radio Aspidistra)! I found this beautiful toadstool though which sealed the magic for me. A few hundred yards further on, I hea...

Heelwalker1: The Valley of the Deer
http://heelwalker1.blogspot.com/2012/01/valley-of-deer.html
From high heels to high hills. Tuesday, 17 January 2012. The Valley of the Deer. A beautiful deer (photo not taken by me sadly! Hayeswater - with moraines at the edge. He also taught me how to map read, a skill which has been developed much more fully over the years than my knowledge of glaciers! Rest Dodd and The Knott from Gray Crag. Rest Dodd and The Nab. Peat Bogs on The Nab. It is a basic error in fell-walking to assume anyone knows where they are going or if they do, that it is the same way you wan...
