May 13, 2010. The Weekly Musings of a College Reading and Writing Instructor. 8212; Gabe Dybing @ 5:09 pm. My grades are handed in. Another school year is over. The summer is before me. I think I’ll start a blog. I also joined a local writing group. I have already begun to write, in longhand, a strange fairy-tale-esque piece about protagonists “Scratch” and “Hairy Mary.” Goblins and witches are involved. It should be fun. Let the summer break begin! 4 Comments ». Feed for comments on this post. You are c...

July 13, 2010. 8212; Gabe Dybing @ 8:29 pm. We never got to the rest of the slide show, and we probably won’t, so for posterity and the edification of the Internet academic community, here’s the rest. Today, I took my class over to Nick Ozment. Without further comment, here’s the “tale” we produced today:. Again, I’m impressed at how enthusiastic these students are. The highlight of the day was at the end. They wanted me to read the story aloud with a strange voice, but then they spontaneou...Feed for co...

June 28, 2010. 8212; Gabe Dybing @ 8:14 pm. All right. I realize I’ve been away for a while, but I am now ready to report that I have my curriculum pretty much determined for fall semester. Writing it all down here will help me to organize my thoughts once school really starts – and it will be starting soon, I know! Here’s what I’m going to use:. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? By Philip K. Dick. Einstein’s God: Conversations about Science and the Human Spirit. Collected by Krista Tippett. Oh, yeah&...

David M Pitchford: poet, novelist, fringemonkey. What Their Son Saw. Denial of mortality ceases at undeniable news →. Deep blue rhythm of arctic winter grasps. In chill fingers southern haven belies. Comforts, jails them in frosted winter world. For warmth they pray. Though to whom none can certain say, they pray. And curse and burn more fuel, wood, gas, coal. Smoke and steam escaping impotent to heat. The world and its arctic sky snowing slow. Just weeks from vernal equinox they cry. A few favorite poets.

Beat Writers Block | paint it iambic

David M Pitchford: poet, novelist, fringemonkey. To Knock the Block. David M. Pitchford. What is Writers Block? Seems a simple question, doesn’t it? But it is not. We all seem to have an idea of what WB is, but how do we define it? The condition of being blocked from writing? How do we deal with WB? There are as many formulas for this as there are writers. Likely more. Breaking the block is mostly a matter of self-knowledge. By understanding ourselves, we can learn what causes these blocks. These are, of...
