Who’s still around? Having said that, let’s take a look at what’s been happening online! Perusing my blog roll, I was happy to see that at least some of the blogs back from when chess improvement blogging was all the rage are still active: for example Katar. And, much to my delight, Confessions of a Chess Novice. This entry was posted on Thursday, February 20th, 2014 at 11:10 am and is filed under varia. Temposchlucker: Final conclusion
http://temposchlucker.blogspot.com/2014/09/final-conclusion.html
Finding my way in the chessdevelopment- and training jungle in order to improve my rating. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. What this blog lacks is a final conclusion. I will provide one now. There are things in life that one can call "unfinished business". In my life I had two which stood out: fishing and playing chess. I hardly caught any fish when I started to experiment with fishing. Good luck to all of you. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 1:22:00 AM GMT 2. I think the differen...

7th Rank: Does it work or does it not?
http://7thrank.blogspot.com/2014/07/does-it-work-or-does-it-not.html
Sunday, July 20, 2014. Does it work or does it not? On this blog, I will be posting interesting things about chess, interesting details of my students and all I want to talk about chess. My 1st post is about one of my students. He missed basic backrank mates.Read below. What was the reason? I did research on the learning methods of chess. What was important to reduce blunders? What was important to slow down the really fast players? His rating still slided. He had a couple of tournaments where he had...

7th Rank: Q vs 2P endgame puzzle
http://7thrank.blogspot.com/2014/11/q-vs-2p-endgame-puzzle.html
Thursday, November 13, 2014. Q vs 2P endgame puzzle. Black to move, who wins? Based on the natural assumption that a Queen is better than 2 pawns, white has the psychological edge. Sure? We will discuss in the comments section. This is a 1500 rated problem. November 14, 2014 at 12:17 PM. I am afraid every move wins for white. My solution is Queen h2 and then the Kc4 - f4. Black can only wait and die, I think there is nothing to think. November 14, 2014 at 4:40 PM. Kc4 to f4 is the key, you got it right.

theGreatPatzer: CHESSERCISE; Athletic musing from a Passionate Patzer!
http://thegreatpatzer.blogspot.com/2015/08/chessercise-athletic-musing-from.html
Monday, August 10, 2015. CHESSERCISE; Athletic musing from a Passionate Patzer! Chess has two sides. On one hand, We stare at the UNCLEAR position- thinking of long-term plans and looking for Vague, tactical complications…. On the other we seek mainly to make Move after move- avoiding idiotic blunders and avoiding giving the opponent Easy tactical chances to win the game! YOU don’t need to play for hour on end- you merely need play carefully, slowly, and regularly. Back to the TOPIC. My own gaming this w...

theGreatPatzer: July 2015
http://thegreatpatzer.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2015. THE LAZINESS OF THE PATZERS (and the winning ways of the St Emillion chess club). Why is it that most average players don't have the discipline, patience, or motivation to become involved in a long-range plan of study and practice to increase their chess skills? The vast majority of games played are quick games played with no increments, with the intentions of winning on time, not with superior chess skills…. St Emillion Chess Club; “Why we Lose at Chess”. I have confession….

7th Rank: Speed thrills....
http://7thrank.blogspot.com/2014/09/speed-thrills_15.html
Monday, September 15, 2014. In the last few months, I lost games that I should draw against; I drew games that I should win. As a result, my USCF rating dropped 200 points. Age catching up? I didn't know. For one or two matches, I didn't care so much. Actually any player can lose 200 points from the peak, no big deal. But, the player should know the quality of his game over a period of time. Looked at the big picture. So, what is the comparison between Nakamura and me? Just my honest opinion. I stopped p...

7th Rank: October 2014
http://7thrank.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Delighted to lose - Mate in few. You teach your students all tactics, give suggestions. You play games with them. You watch them trying to get better than you. You start playing a game with your 8 year old student. All of a sudden you watch him smile and tell you that you will be checkmated. You sigh and continue playing but get checkmated in few. Black to move, Mate in few (you figure that out! I have few posers to you:. 1) Try solving this problem - Black to move. Blunders ar...

7th Rank: Blunders and silence.....
http://7thrank.blogspot.com/2014/10/blunders-and-silence.html
Monday, October 6, 2014. There are blunders, there are bad blunders, there are worse blunders and then there are absolute blunders. I am just kidding! Blunders are blunders no matter which piece you lose. It could be due to oversight, it could be due to lost focus. Comfortable position. Instead, blunders to take f7 pawn. A one off mistake, right? What do you do when you see such blunders repeating in practice games? And then tournament games? What do you do? The ideal thing is to take few days off (= sil...
