Kathel Adventures: August 2014

Mini Adventures Islay and Arran. After a few weeks of planning we packed up the bikes and headed for Ardrossan heading for the Isle of Arran and then the Isle of Islay after that. There were 8 of us in the group, five adults and 3 young ones ranging from 13 to 4. The younger members of the group made sure they had a bar bag for a good supply of sweets that kept the group going throughout the trip! We hired 4 bob trailers from Cyclewise at Whinlatter and they were awesome! Heading back to the campsite we ...

Kathel Adventures: July 2014

As the road flattens off you will start to descend slightly and you will come to a well signed bridleway heading off to the right. This is awesome to ride in the dry and a bit boggy in the wet! Ride the well marked track until you see a well marked track heading off to the left. This track is undulating with a nice short sharp incline to keep you interested! Ullswater soon comes into view and the views in every direction are stunning! The climb is a good one and will certainly get your heart pumping!

http://katheladventures.blogspot.com/2011/10/mountain-biking-ben-alder.html
Mountain Biking Ben Alder. We headed for Dalwhinnie railway station before unloading the bikes and embarking on a 53km ride around Ben Alder. The estate road was the first part of the ride heading towards the spectacular Ben Alder Lodge around Loch Ericht. The route is very popular with walkers who ride to the Culra Bothy, leave their bikes, camp and walk the many munros in the area before riding out. We headed away from the lodge heading towards the Culra Bothy. Heading for the Culra Bothy. After a lunc...

Kathel Adventures: The Capel Mounth
http://katheladventures.blogspot.com/2012/04/capel-mounth.html
We parked at the visitors centre and had a cup of tea before getting the bikes and kit ready for the ride. The car park started to fill up with keen walkers. The weather was forecast to be really windy and given the remoteness and height of the route we had reservations. However we rely on our good sense to have a go and turn back if needed. The ride up the glen was stunning with plenty to keep you entertained. The track was well worn and followed the river all the way. Loch Muick making an appearance.

Blencathra and The Aurora Borealis. It was 7.30pm on a Friday night and it had been a long week! The wee man was in his pyjamas ready for bed when we started discussing the possibility of a mini adventure to try and see the Northern Lights which were active over the UK that night! We asked the wee man if he fancied walking Blencathra and camping under the stars! Before he answered he had picked up his torch and was starting to undress! We didn't have to wait long! The moon was spectacularly bouncing off ...

7 Stanes in 24 Hours MTB Challenge. This years William Howard school's mountain bike challenge was to attempt to ride a route at every 7 Stanes Mountain Bike Trail Centre in 24 hours. Learning to Fly a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus. There are some advantages to having a birthday around Christmas! It means you can justify a big present! Well that's my excuse anyway for wanting a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus! It arrived the day before so the first flight was a birthday flight! In all my excitement I had read and watched every video and blog I could find on flying the Phantom but that still did not calm the nerves on the first few flights! However we thought just be sensible! The video compares...
