A Novel Read: July 2010
http://anovelread.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
I could perhaps live without writing. I don't think I could live without reading." - Alberto Manguel A History of Reading. Friday, July 23, 2010. Every Last One by Anna Quindlen. I finished it yesterday and sat thinking, "Wow.". If you have never read any of Quindlen's fiction, be forewarned. Her books are heavy! Caught me off-guard. I was completely blind-sided by the events that unfolded in the story. At 3 am I lay in bed sobbing with the main character. I would not recommend reading Every Last One.

I could perhaps live without writing. I don't think I could live without reading." - Alberto Manguel A History of Reading. Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Hunger for Memory: The Education of Richard Rodriguez. I first saw this book on a high school summer reading list at the bookstore in Colorado. Asking about it on the East Coast very few people had heard of it. That different alone peaked my interest. Is the academic interest in Hispanic culture that much larger west of the Mississippi? It could have meri...

http://anovelread.blogspot.com/2011/06/blackout-all-clear-by-connie-willis.html
I could perhaps live without writing. I don't think I could live without reading." - Alberto Manguel A History of Reading. Thursday, June 23, 2011. Blackout and All Clear by Connie Willis. But it did make me hesitate before I read the books. Jump to book two: All Clear. The first Willis book I read and the beginning of an literary obsession. I think she could have cut out 100 pages in the middle. I wish the book had been released as a single 1000-page tome. But, I remain a die-hard fan. 1st in a Series.

I could perhaps live without writing. I don't think I could live without reading." - Alberto Manguel A History of Reading. Tuesday, August 31, 2010. The Aloha Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. I first discovered Jennifer Chiaverini by sheer chance. I stood in the bookstore looking for a book by Tracy Chevalier and was attracted by the cover of a nearby book, The Quilter's Apprentice. As Chiaverini grew in renown, her books also grew in number. When I picked up The Aloha Quilt. When I saw The Aloha Quilt.

I could perhaps live without writing. I don't think I could live without reading." - Alberto Manguel A History of Reading. Thursday, December 9, 2010. During the month of October I focused on the books my kids were reading. I haven't found any of my recent reads that inspiring which is why I haven't posted much. However, I wanted to add another to the list of good kids finds. And I wanted to join the latest I Can Read Carnival. And told the story - in great detail - to the Clifford stuffed animal he brou...

I could perhaps live without writing. I don't think I could live without reading." - Alberto Manguel A History of Reading. Tuesday, September 28, 2010. State of the Onion by Julie Hyzy. The plot of State of the Onion. Now, other people I know liked this book a lot more than I did. I'm a harsh critic when it comes to accuracy and realism. If you want a light fun story, Hyzy's not bad. I did get invested in the climax and discovery of the bad guy. It was also the right book to have when I n...On a whim at ...

A Novel Read: The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
http://anovelread.blogspot.com/2011/05/graveyard-book-by-neil-gaiman.html
I could perhaps live without writing. I don't think I could live without reading." - Alberto Manguel A History of Reading. Thursday, May 26, 2011. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I love Neil Gaiman's books. He can create the most fascinating, dynamic, unique worlds. I have read all of his adult books. But I am not as enamored of his children's literature. I feel it is a bit dark (who am I kidding, it's really. Dark) I liked Coraline. I was surprised when I found out it had won the Newberry Medal.

I could perhaps live without writing. I don't think I could live without reading." - Alberto Manguel A History of Reading. Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Sorry for being gone for most of the past three months. I have hit a wall with blogging about what I read. I finish a decent book and thing, how much can I say about this series that I haven't already said three times before? There are two directions I can take the blog and I think I will work at both. Sixty Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong. And I won't ign...
