May 7, 2014. The weather is finally warming up and it's almost time to plant our garden. Baby chicks will be here soon and so will our baby pigs. Our cows have been busy! We have had a lot of calves this spring. We also had two sets of twins. I will post pictures of all the babies soon. Also, we will be updating our website in the coming weeks. Seems like with keeping all the animals (and people) happy on the farm, our poor website is the last in line to get attention! Get out and enjoy the warm weather!

Since grass-fed beef contains less fat keep in mind that it should be cooked a little differently. The following tips will bring out the best in your beef. Thaw out your grass-fed beef in the refrigerator not in the microwave. Leaner cuts such as steak should be cooked medium to rare so they do not dry out. These cuts can be marinated before cooking which will keep them moister. Less tender cuts such as a chuck roast work well with methods using moisture or by cooking in a slow cooker.

Palara Farm dates back to 1939 when Pearl and Alice Sexton purchased this land in Southwest Ohio. Their daughter Clara and her husband Paul Dutenhaver started farming the same land in 1969. Paul and Clara combined both of their names together to get the Palara Farm name. Now the Dutenhaver brothers, James and Steve, and their families are back on the farm to continue the farming tradition.

We raise our beef outside on pasture, without antibiotics or hormones. We market freezer beef to our customers each fall. Due to customer demand, we will now offer a select group smaller boxes of meat. These boxes will be available at select times. All of the meat is processed at a state inspected facility. We are also now offering soy free pork products. Our pigs are also raised outside. check out our price sheet for what we have available.
