Jose De Juan. Painter. Scattered. I've been calling myself that for a while now and it's time to take an informed pause. Running around trying to "do" everything is just wearing me down and it's like trying to build three houses at the same time, with different blueprints and materials and locations. You spend more time running between the houses than actually building them. Expensive and self-fulfilling marketing strategies. Here are some pieces I did for the Segil and Tirage Galleries' sponsored outing...

Jose De Juan. Painter. Tattoos and Mr. Lopez. The BP Portrait Awards 2015. Sebastian' oil on canvas , by Czech painter Jan Mikulka. 70x100cm. Like last year, why the first prize. Went to the painting it went to will remain a mystery to me. I thought it was a-ok, a bit uneven, miming photography and uninteresting despite the pretense that it was inspired by a biblical passage or something lofty like that. Oh well. Eliza' by Michael Gaskell (b.1973). 370 x 270mm, acrylic on board. 2nd Prize. Every year the...

Jose De Juan. Painter. Whitechapel, a street that on Saturdays could very well be somewhere in BanglaDesh or Pakistan. And despite it all, I'd say I am gathering a decent collection of plein air sketches. They are all 8"x10" because that's the size of the carrier I built. Two of them are on their way to collectors in the USA. One watercolor found a home here in London and other people have expressed interest. Not bad for a weekend warrior. Greenwich street" Sun drenched this time. SOLD. The passers-by ha...

He ended up in Monterrey when this town was but a small fishing village. You can read more about his life here. Stranded" oil on canvas. The skies never reflect in the ocean and are often heavier and more belabored than the sea below. His treatment of the human form is quite cartoonish and coarse as well. ...

Jose De Juan. Painter. Our day of hero worship: Alexander McQueen and Singer Sargent. Victoria and Albert Courtyard. watercolor. Today we decided to visit the spectacular Alexander McQueen exhibition at the Victoria&Albert Museum:" Savage Beauty. As a place of inspiration, Britain is the best in the world. You are inspired by the anarchy in the country". And the show forcefully pairs the seductive tartans against the fairytale designs of " The girl that lived in a tree. Jose De Juan. Painter. About the movie.I liked the photography quite a bit, and the acting. But I did hate the premise the director shoved down our throats. Yes, Turner was probably just a "bloke" but I doubt he was a wild grunting beast as well. Oh, you sketch too? That's cute. Some of Turner's notebooks. Blue Rigi, Sunset" watercolor. Jose De Juan. Painter. Ok, so here are the announced numbers in as stark a way as numbers can have to deliver bad news. By the way, I pondered again and again whether I should post them. Is it tacky? Is it an invitation to unwanted attention from the IRS? Hardly. The IRS will be sorely disappointed. My goal posting this as I've stated many times is mostly to help me confront them and may be help other artists confront theirs. Numbers have a wonderful (and horrible) way of delivering the truth. So after e...
