Paleotrails Project

Tuesday, June 18, 2013. It's been a long time. Oh, boy. I just remembered that I haven't posted anything in three years! Part of the reason for that is because of a mastodon stampede. In 2010 the Denver Museum of Nature and Science started excavating a remarkable fossil site in Snowmass, Colorado. It was muddy, rainy, sunny, hot, cold and exciting! Research in other areas, including Corral Bluffs, came to a screeching halt! Tuesday, April 27, 2010. In the meantime I have rebuild and updated my website...

Paleotrails Project: May 2009

http://paleotrailsproject.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 15, 2009. A Day in the field with the DMNS curators. Ken Weissenburger also found what appears to be a small crocodile skull, with various other bones. The DMNS crew may come back to take it out. When I got home I found that I had a 6 inch hole in the seat of my old favorite field pants! I hope I was walking in back of the group most of the day. Paleotrails Project: March 2010

http://paleotrailsproject.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 19, 2010. After a year and a half of searching, a couple of weeks ago I found my first mammal jaw out in the field. It is surprisingly large. It is tentatively identified as an arctocyonid, a raccoon-like mammal. The teeth are not well preserved, so identification will probably be difficult. My other early spring project is to learn to make thin sections so we can identify the types of fossils trees in Corral Bluffs, of which there seem to be an endless supply! Paleotrails Project: November 2008

http://paleotrailsproject.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 22, 2008. The website it up! Tomorrow was supposed to be a day in the field, but the ground is covered with snow, so we'll have to put that off for a bit. We've been lucky and haven't run into any rattlesnakes so far, and hopefully they're all sleeping for the season now. I'll post more later about Red Rock Canyon and other continuing paleontological adventures. Thanks for checking in! This is my first try at creating my own blog. This is a test. Adjacent to Rampart High School, Rampart Park preserves abundant fossil trees in Upper Cretaceous to Paleocene sandstone in the the D1 sequence of the Denver Formation (Raynolds, 2003). None of the trees are in growth position. Most fossil logs trend in the nearly the same direction, preserving the route of the ancient stream beds that carried them. Sunday, July 26, 2015. What are Bacchnalian Banana Bars you ask? Well This post comes with a little vocab lesson. I modified this recipe from a non-paleo recipe and they turned out GREAT! For adjectives starting with "b." Here, I found the word "bacchanalian." I loved the sound of the word, and when I clicked on it to see the definition, it showed "used of riotously drunken merrymaking." Perfect! These bars are so good they'll make you want to have a night of riotously drunken merrymaking! Place on dehyd...
