Sunday, 14 November 2010. As temperatures soared in Zanzibar, so did that of its residents. Leading political party CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) and the CUF (Civil United Front) opposition rallied across Zanzibar in the run up to the elections to drum up support as tourists and expatriates vacated Stone Town. Those who remained stocked up on supplies ensuring they had enough food and water to survive shop closures during the election period and possible curfews. Surprisingly, it was a peaceful election.
