南部的阿美族自稱 'Amis，而北部則自稱為 Pangcah)為 台灣. 原住民之一。原分佈於花蓮縣、台東縣和屏東縣境內。人口大部份居住在平地，很少處於山谷或群山之中。因為社會生活需求，長年旅居都會區的原住民也在大台北、大高雄和大臺中區建立了都市或都市邊緣的新社群。 阿美族原名Pangcah（漢譯邦查），Amis為南方的卑南族對阿美族的稱呼，意為「北方」之意，因此南部的阿美族也會自稱為Amis。經日本學者著作等影響，擴大並受統治政府定名為全族族名。 阿美族根據居住地可以進一步分為秀姑巒阿美、海岸阿美、卑南阿美/馬蘭阿美、恆春阿美四個分類群，原本另有南勢阿美/奇萊阿美一支，但該支系今已正名為撒奇萊雅族。日本學者伊能嘉矩曾說過，這種分類是根據地理分佈和方便說明而行，並非依照人類學作區分。 阿美族是母系社會，家族事務是以女性為主體並由女性負責，家族產業之繼承以家族長女與其他女性為優先；但在部落中，有關部落的大小事務則是由部落男子所組成的年齡階級負責統籌規劃與執行。總人口約十六萬餘人，是台灣原住民中人口最多的一族。 阿美族的起源傳說與大洪水、檳榔、兄妹婚有關。 訂閱： 文章 (Atom).
