Paniyas are scheduled tribes of India residing in Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve (NBR) mainly in Wayanad, Gudalur (North Kerala, South Karnataka and Northwest Tamil Nadu) regions. Paniyas are of the dark- skinned tribe, short in stature, broad noses with curly or wavy hair.

I am Stephen Daniel, and my wife Lissy and my three children Boez, Grace, and Joyce are serving as the Scripture Translators to the Paniyas tribe as a voluntary effort. We have a passion for seeing this tribe receive the Scripture and other literatures in their vernacular and my family has dedicated our lives to this cause. In 2011, undergone the Translation Consultant and Development Workshop (TCDW). With God's provision, our vision will be realized.

A fascinating Ecosystem of the hill ranges of Nilgiris and its surrounding environments covering a tract of over 5000 Square kilometers was constituted as Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in September 1986 under Man and Biosphere Program. Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve is India's first and foremost biosphere reserves with a heritage, rich in flora and fauna.

The name has originated from the Malayalam word 'Panikkar' (labourers). These are thatch roofed, mud bricked ones; they usually have tough time during rainy seasons.
