In and around Parikkala today. 160;Wednesday, 11 July 2012. This morning we headed into the town of Parikkala, which is about 3 miles or so north of the cottage. We all went to have a look around a couple of little museums and a craft centre, both of which were nice in the morning sunshine. Then we visited a little Russian church, which was very little indeed- I would imagine that at full capacity, it might hold 20 people! In Parikkala village, by the church. It's been sunny and warm today, with the temperature reaching 25C this afternoon and therefore there has been lots of time spent in and around the water. With the Russian contingent! 160;Friday, 13 July 2012. Today, finally, it rained! This morning we had thunder and lightning and this afternoon after stopping for a while, the rain returned and it is still raining now, at 7.30pm. Despite that, we have been shopping in town and swimming in the lake, as well as enjoying the usual sauna- lake routine. Day 1- Thursday 5th July. 160;Thursday, 5 July 2012. We awoke at 3.00am this morning, to allow us to get to the airport in plenty of time for our early morning flight to Tampere. Sandy had hardly slept, as he was still awake at 11.30 last night, so he was looking a bit tired right from the start! At the airport, we got checked in quickly and our flight left Edinburgh more or less on time at about 6.45am. Bacon rolls at Edinburgh airport for breakfast at 5.15am! Close to our hotel in Helsinki.

A lazy day in lovely Ruovesi. 160;Friday, 27 July 2012. Another lovely day here, with the temperature reaching 25C this afternoon. And the lake temperature has also reached its highest point of our whole holiday, with 25C being recorded both here at the cottage, in Lake Kankijarvi and also down in Ruovesi itself, where we spent much of the afternoon! 1st day at Lake Kankijarvi- back to basics! 160;Sunday, 22 July 2012. Anna on the jetty! Looking back from the lake to the sauna. So, to wash, we have to heat a large stove next to the sauna down by the lake, and mix this hot water with cold water that is pumped from the lake and throw it all over ourselves in a small tiled area next to the sauna itself! Setting off to fish this morning on the boat- nothing was doing though and we were soon back on the jetty. Olivia was first to catch something- a perch, and doesn't she look happy? 160;Friday, 16 March 2012. After arriving in Tampere, we'll pick up our rental car and head straight towards the capital, Helsinki, about an hour and a half to the south. We're booked in at the Hellsten Helsinki apartments. Day 3 - Saturday 7th July. 160;Saturday, 7 July 2012. We had an easy morning, getting up quite late, before we headed towards the centre of town on foot. We wanted to visit Stockmann department store. As Sandy was looking for some sunglasses. We had a long, lazy look round this huge shop, before we headed back to the hotel, stopping off for ice creams along the way. Day 2 - Friday 6th July. 160;Friday, 6 July 2012. Our large apartment is on the top floor, so this is one of the windows in one of the bedrooms! This little park is more or less next to our hotel. It's a popular attraction each time we walk out of the front door! In Helsinki, coffee seems to be served in a glass! At the train station. Heading down to the South Harbour after lunch. What an eventful day. 160;Friday, 20 July 2012. First of all, Happy Anniversary to my mum and dad back in Scotland! Hope you have had a lovely day. This morning, we had no plans at all. It was a case of just seeing what the weather might do. As it looked cloudy and not very promising first thing, Anna suggested we walk up the road a bit and pick some blueberries. We spent an hour and a half on this and ate loads, saw some frogs, and came back with piles of them! So we waited a while and prepared dinner.
