The Parks Blog: Mining and the Media

http://parksblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/mining-and-media.html

Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Mining and the Media. A few weeks ago Interior Secretary Ken Salazar extended. Be allowed to reopen (it will depend on whether they are deemed abandoned claims), and a few other new claims that might. Be perfected, but most of the claims that were filed near the end of the Bush presidency are likely to be worthless. This is because withdrawals of public lands are always made subject to valid existing rights. Does a better job of providing context and background, even in short arti...

The Parks Blog: October 2011

http://parksblog.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 22, 2011. Trees in the City. I have a backlog of pieces I've been meaning to write about and a number of them all share a theme: urban trees. Many cities, particularly dense ones like New York (especially Manhattan) or sprawling, concrete filled ones like Los Angeles, have a pronounced lack of greenery and what trees do exist are often sickly, ugly, unkempt, or isolated. Media coverage of environmental issues...

The Parks Blog: September 2011

http://parksblog.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Not a long post, just a quick follow up on my last post about nature as a social construction. The September issue of National Geographic had a nice piece. Thursday, September 15, 2011. Ideas of Nature and Social Construction. Represent three distinct schools of thought and are leading thinkers in the field, at least among environmental historians). Goes and steals my thunder publishing a thoughtful Op-Ed. What do all of these things have in common? Is also under the impressi...

It is only natural that if you’re shopping in a Country Store with a Bakery. That your appetite will be aroused. Way back when, long before we ever had our Country Store, our family used to sell U-pick. Soups, sandwiches, wraps, and a daily special that is sure to please. It’s a great way to work up to dessert.
