Martumili Artists represents speakers of Manyjilyjarra, Warnman, Kartujarra, Puojarra and Martu Wangka languages, many of whom experienced first contact with Europeans in the 1960s. The artists include painters , working in acrylics and oils, as well as weavers coiling baskets and sculptors working in wood, grass and wool. Martu artists proudly maintain their creative practices whilst pursuing social and cultural obligations across the Martu homeland.

Martu language groups include Manyjilyjarra, Kartujarra, Kiyajarra, Putijarra, Nyiyaparli, Warnman, Ngulipartu, Pitjikala, Kurajarra, Jiwaliny, Mangala and Nangajarra. Martu means 'one of us' or 'person' and the language is often called Martu Wangka, a western desert language. The community is managed by the Parnngurr Aboriginal Corporation. Find us on the map. Send us an email. The Clinic is run by the Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) which is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS). It was established in 1994. There is a visiting Doctor who gets flown into the Community fortnightly and various visiting Specialists who come into the Community throughout the year to provide health care and health education to the Community. The Royal Flying Doctor Service is flown in for any major emergencies.

Parnngurr Community School
I helped build this rest house. I watched them being made. This spear was use for fighting. The goanna in the shade. A long time ago the old people they used to drink from the water. Here are some photos of our school building in Purnngurr which is located in the Great Sandy Desert of Australia. This spear belong to Wokka. Parnngurr is a remote West Australian Indigenous Community located 370kms East of Newman, on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert. This is a spacious landscape of red sand, spinifex plains, honey grevillia and desert oaks under an azure sky. It is the home of 140 Martu people whose ancestors have been here since the beginning of the Dreaming. The community is built in the shadow of twin hills with particular significance to Martu, at the southern end of the Karlamilyi (Rudall River) National Park.
